Christmas Day in our home

December 27, 2016

When you have toddlers in the home Christmas Day really is the most special day in the year. We are fortunate to have four year old twins in our home and their excitement levels were totally maxed out at bedtime on Christmas Eve!

I was really expecting an early start on Christmas morning, possibly 5am, so it came as quite a shock when M who was sleeping in our bed as usual, didn’t wake till 6.30am.

The night before we had a little chat to the girls about sleeping in their own beds all night as that what Santa would want. Amazingly R must have been listening because we had to wake her up around 7am in her own bed! Like M, R usually finds her way to our bed at some point during the night, but not this night!

The moment when they walked into the room where Father Christmas had left their presents was absolutely priceless. Seeing the snow prints from Father Christmas’s boots, then all the presents that Father Christmas had left was amazing!

This moment will only last for a few years and for me it is so important to savour their little faces and reactions as they open their presents and see the list they sent to Father Christmas appear in front of them.

Three hours later the presents were all opened.

Like a lot of parents I think we probably bought too much, but am I feeling guilty? No, they are only little once.

The highlight of the toys without question had to be the battery operated sit in cars the girls had from Father Christmas. It was so funny watching them drive up and down the lounge.

The rest of Christmas Day went pretty much to plan. We had our Christmas lunch and all the family got together and Christmas is really what that’s about, FAMILY.

One moment during the day was extra special for me. My wife bought me an Amazon Echo and she is called Alexa, and I think I’m in love with her! It’s the most incredible piece of technology ever!

Seriously though even though that was cool, my two oldest daughters did something very special for me. They made a frame which has the names of all five of my children in, made up of scrabble letters. This sort of thing will always bring a tear to my eye. Thankfully they are happy tears and my heart just bursts with pride and love when I think of my children.

Christmas Day was perfect. Spending it with the love of my life, my wife, my children and my mum. What more could a man ask for?
