Creating a feature wall using Dulux paint

I was recently employed to re-decorate a lounge in a semi- detached house. The room was at the back of the house and a conservatory had been built which reduced the light going into the room quite dramatically.

The customer wanted light in the room, but also wanted a bit of character using only emulsion paint.

The first job was to paint the ceiling and down the wall to the picture rail in Dulux White Matt emulsion applying two coats of paint. This used 5 litres of paint.

Then I painted the walls in Dulux Matt emulsion in magnolia. Again applying two coats of paint using 5 litres of paint.

Now to add character I painted the chimney breast in Dulux feature wall colours. The colour used was Purple Pout which gave a wonderful contrast with the magnolia. Again I applied two coats.

Finally I painted all the woodwork in Dulux white quick drying satinwood recommended by ramresearch.org . This took two coats and this also included the picture rail which had previously been wood stained

The overall effect gives a light feel and adds an element of character with the chimney breast.
