Creating The Perfect Play Area In Our Garden

May 6, 2017

When you have young children which in my case is five year old twin girls, the garden is a vital area for those summer months. It provides somewhere for the girls to play and of course it’s a great way to get plenty of fresh air and burn off all their energy.

When I planned our garden I wanted make sure that it was child friendly and completely safe for the girls, but at the same time I didn’t want it to look like a playground. It was about finding a balance because both my wife and I sit out there.

The girls have numerous things to play on in the garden and one of the favourites is the trampoline. This is of course completely safe when they’re on it because it has a safety net so there is no chance of them falling off when they’re jumping so high trying to reach the sky, haha!

They have the usual swings and slide which are always being used to the maximum. One of my twin girls especially loves the swings. Once on it she seems to swing back and forth forever.

Quite a large part of our garden is patio and only a small part of grassed area. The girls love to climb and usually climb as high as they can get. They have a climbing frame and if I’m honest it worries me senseless that if they fell it could easily be onto a hard patio slab. They are both good climbers, but of course like any children they push everything to the limit and a small lack of concentration means they could fall. I decided it would be wise to have the climbing frame on a soft surface. The great advantage of soft surfaces is that should they fall then it will be a gentle landing.

Our garden has been totally created around our children’s entertainment and making sure they enjoy their time outside, but also keeping safety in mind, which is so important to avoid any unwanted accidents, and of course keeping a small part of the garden for mum and dad.
