Cubetto Robot Review by Primo Toys 

I was recently sent a Cubetto the Robot coding game made by Primo Toys. What is particularly special about Cubetto is that it can help children to learn about coding whilst having fun, and we all know that’s the best way to learn for children. It is aimed at 3-6 year olds.

As a father I love to play games with my children and especially my five year old twins. It’s very exciting watching them learn and work things out for themselves. As a hands on dad it’s important for me to be involved with as many activities my twins do.

Cubetto is a perfect example of this. The twins learn logic, algorithms and test their abilities to work things out, but also have lots of fun playing a fantastic game with dad. I have always loved working out things and logic is an important ability to have to go through life. This game is perfect for me to play with my five year old twins.

So Cubetto is, as I have said, a coding game that you take on an adventure. You can either follow the storybook or completely make up your own adventure. We decided to start with to use the storybook so we could get used to Cubetto.

In the game you receive a Cubetto, which is a smiling wooden robot, 16 coding blocks, a programmable console, a world map and an activity book to help you start your adventure. The great thing about Cubetto is instead of using a screen you use tangible blocks. Cubetto is a montessori approved toy as well as LOGO Turtle inspired, it definitely helps teach children about coding without the use of a computer.

The blocks that are used on the main console to move our smiling robot on the brightly coloured fabric map are all brightly coloured and have a different function.

Red blocks make Cubetto turn right. Green ones make Cubetto move forward. Yellow ones makes Cubetto turn left and the blue ones are function blocks which means that you can put a series of blocks (directions) into the function line and the use one blue block in your path where which in turn will mean Cubetto follows each step in the function path.

Cubetto moves easily on either carpet or a hard surface, which was great as we were able to sit on the floor in our lounge to play. The blocks also teach children their left from right as they watch Cubetto move in the right direction. That’s actually quite useful for me because I always seem to get it wrong, haha!

Cubetto comes out of the box and is ready to play in seconds. It doesn’t come with batteries, so you will need 6AA batteries which last approximately 5 hours of nonstop play. All you have to do is pair Cubetto with the console, grab the activity book, and the adventure begins!

The activity book also contains lots of mini adventures. It doesn’t really matter if they get it wrong because next time they will probably get it right. It’s all about learning.

My five year old twin girls loved playing with cubetto and actually got very good very quickly. There are more adventure packs available that you can buy as well and these also help to increase the fun and more importantly help kids to learn coding. As a dad I would highly recommend Cubetto as a perfect game to play with your children.
