Decorating an hall/landing/stairs with a difference

The hall, landing and stairs was to be decorated in a slightly different way to normal. I have posted previously about how to install a dado rail and this was the property that I installed the dado rail in.

The reason behind the dado rail was that the client wanted wallpaper below the dado rail and painted above.

The first job was to install the dado rail. The next job was to paint all the woodwork in Dulux white undercoat and gloss after preparation this took 2.5 litres of undercoat and gloss.

The second job was to paint the ceilings in white Dulux emulsion matt paint (2 coats requiring 5 litres of paint).

 

The next job was to paint all the walls above the dado rail in Dulux matt emulsion (colour Egyptian Cotten. 2 coats requiring 7.5 litres of paint).

The final job was to hang the wallpaper below the dado rail. For this I used a patterned super fresco paper (requiring 6 rolls of paper).

 

 

The overall effect is one of character in keeping with the age of the house, but by painting the upper parts keeping it modern. It was also important to keep the colours light as there was little light entering this area of the property.

I then moved onto the lounge and dining room. It was an area of limited light so we didn’t want to use white as this gives a clinical look. The room needed to stay light, but also needed warmth from the colour.

The first job was make repairs as required and then I painted the ceilings in Dulux White Matt emulsion (2 coats using 5 litres of paint).

 

The walls needed to be hard wearing as the client had a small child so we decided on Crown silk emulsion (2 coats requiring 10 litres of paint). The silk finish will allow for ease of ideal cleaning.

 

 

Finally all the woodwork was painted using Dulux undercoat and gloss after preparation (1 litre of paint in undercoat and gloss).

The overall effect of keeping the rooms light works and also the colour adds a little warmth to a big area.
