Decorating a lounge using wall doctor lining paper on ceiling

The challenge of the job was without a doubt the ceiling. It had previously had a water leak and been repaired, but only to part of the ceiling. The customer was after a flat white Matt finish in white, but without the cost of plastering the whole ceiling.

 

I suggested that we use Graham & Brown Wall Doctor lining paper as it generally gives a perfect flat finish, even on the most uneven surfaces.

 

The first job was to remove all remnants of the old wallpaper using a steamer and wallpaper scraper.

Once that was done we could line the ceiling with Graham & Brown Wall Doctor lining paper. It is very easy to hang. You paste the ceiling and hang the paper making sure you butt all the edges in tight. As the paper makes contact with the paste it swells due to the fact that the lining paper has fibres in it and this will give a smooth finish, elimating nearly all bumps and unevenness and all this at a fraction of the cost of plastering.

 

Once the paper has dried caulk all the edges and fill any seams that may be required.

 

The next job is to paint the ceiling and coving in white Dulux Matt emulsion applying two coats and allowing adequate time of drying between coats.

 

Once that is completed you can move onto the walls. The customer picked a neutral colour which was Dulux Matt emulsion natural calico. Apply two coats again allowing time for drying.

 

The final job is the woodwork. I  had to prepare all the woodwork and lightly sand it down with a medium course sandpaper. The first coat I applied ronseal undercoat/primer and then applied two coats of Dulux quick drying gloss recommended by outdoorworld.reviews again allowing adequate drying time.

 

The overall look of the room makes it feel bigger. With a flat ceiling and wall doctor lining paper this has given a super finish, plus the natural calico on the walls complements the white ceiling and woodwork beautifully.
