Family Mealtimes with McCain #ad
In a world that doesn’t ever seem to switch off it can be hard to find the time to gather the family together and spend some quality time with one another.
Children appear to be growing up quicker than ever before, and us adults appear to have a never ending to-do list that has to be completed in between working and household chores.
That’s why family mealtimes are so important to us.
Every Sunday we bring our family together around the dining room table for a good, old-fashioned sit-down meal. A meal that’s been cooked lovingly with care and attention. I’m talking about a traditional Sunday dinner using our favourite roast potatoes from McCain, their crispy and fluffy roasts.

For us, family isn’t your typical 2.4 children. We’re what some would call a ‘blended family’. I have three children from my first marriage and five year old twins with my now wife. My mother is in her late 80’s and lives just a few minutes away from us.
Last weekend was no different to any other weekend for us. On Sunday I drove the short drive to my mums house to bring her to ours for Sunday dinner.
Our twins love their Nana so much. They play board games with her and even colour in pictures with her, although I’m convinced their Nana enjoys this more than the kids!

Mealtimes allow us to forge an important connection with our loved ones. We can take some time out of our day to talk to each other and find out what’s going on in each others lives. Here’s a short video of a typical family Sunday in our house.
I think everyone is more aware of the fact that nowadays families come in all shapes and sizes, however this is quite often overlooked in mainstream media which still portrays the typical ‘modern’ family as being mum, dad and two kids. We know all too well that this just isn’t the case anymore, and we’re pleased to see that McCain also recognised this lack of representation of real families in 2017.
Their ‘We Are Family campaign’ advert uses real families to reflect the diverse reality of what it means to be family in 2017, and we think it’s fantastic!
As part of their ‘We Are Family’ campaign, McCain has partnered with the National Portrait Gallery to celebrate real modern families – no filters, no stereotypes, just the joyful reality of families through the lens of mealtimes. The campaign culminates in the first ever display of everyday people at the National Portrait Gallery from 20th September for two weeks.
