Getting The Best Out of Your Conservatory In Your Home

February 18, 2026

We are a family of four and since our twin girls have become teenagers we have discovered that we need to utilise the space in our home more effectively.

We have A conservatory to the rear of our home and in all honesty it is not used as much as it could be. There are a number of reasons why this is the case.

The conservatory was installed a number of years ago and was built in the traditional way of construction using all glass. This is of course is great when you want plenty of light, but it unfortunately has a number of negatives especially if the roof is made of all glass or polycarbonate.

Our roof on our conservatory is currently made of polycarbonate and this type of roof leaves the room too hot to sit in during summer months, and it absolutely freezing in the winter. In addition, you would not believe the noise when it rains – it is quite honestly unbearable and you can’t even hear each other while having a chat.

So here are a few solutions to making your conservatory a room you can use all year and really make it a focal point of family life.

Conservatory Roof

So we can use our conservatory all year round we have decided to have a solid conservatory roof replacement. It is without doubt the perfect upgrade. It will add effective insulation and of course reduce glare and ultimately make our conservatory into a comfortable year round living space for all to use and more importantly for the girls to have their friends around and give them some privacy.

A solid conservatory roof is very quick to install and the roof on your conservatory can of course match the rest of your property so it blends in perfectly.

It will make your conservatory more energy efficient which will be cool in the summer and warm in those cold winter months.

Central Heating

To make your conservatory nice and cosy during the winter months it is well worth have your central heating extended to the conservatory. This is fairly inexpensive. It is simply just adding a couple of radiators and the solid roof will help keep the heat in during the winter because glass roofs have a habit of letting the heat escape almost instantly.

Furniture

We currently have very little furniture in our conservatory and the chairs are made of wicker whic are very cold. So we will be swapping this type of furniture for fabric chairs and a sofa. Fabric chairs and sofas are perfect for absorbing and retaining heat so these will be perfect additions to our conservatory to give it a more luxurious feel.

So those are a few tips and suggestions to giving your conservatory an upgrade and there is no doubt that a solid roof replacement will be perfect to use our conservatory all of the year along with many other benefits.
