Getting The Kids Outdoors This Summer

June 22, 2021

This summer will undoubtedly be a better summer than we had in 2020. The restrictions that we had to endure last summer definitely curtailed our summer fun, but with restrictions easing all the time, this summer will be the year to get back outdoors with kids and there is no better place than your very own back garden to enjoy some summer fun with the kids.

There is so much you can do such as making your garden a dream garden that kids can can design with, of course, fun being the main objective I know my nine year old twin girls love to make up games and think of activities that they do in their back garden.

I have teamed up with Regatta who have launched a campaign called Our Green Space. The campaign is all about children designing their dream outdoor space so Regatta can find out what features children are looking for when they are outside and they can then, through the campaign, bring their ideas to life in 3D visuals. You can learn more about the campaign right here.

So if you are looking for ideas for some summer fun in the garden with the kids, here are some of the things me and the girls get up to.

Ninja Warrior Course

We as a family absolutely love the Ninja Warrior UK tv show and when the sun comes out we love to re-create the ninja course in our back garden by just using what is in or back garden such as climbing frames, the trampoline and planks to create a walkway across the paddling pool. The girls have endless hours of fun trying to improve their times to complete the course and of course beat each other and the chances are they will encourage mum and dad to do the course and naturally we will make fools of ourselves and give the girls a big laugh.

Kite Flying

We are very lucky to live near some beautiful wide open countryside with mountain walks. This is the perfect place for us to go as a family to fly kites on a windy summer day. Watching the kites fly high in the sky is always guaranteed to put big smiles on our nine year twin girls faces. Kite flying is something every child should enjoy. It’s an awesome activity.

Gardening with Kids

A perfect activity that all children enjoy is growing sunflowers. Our girls have grown them from seed and this is a great life lesson that teaches them to be responsible and to look after something and in fairness they water them and make sure the sunflowers are put outside everyday to harden them up for when it’s time to plant them outside permanently. Gardening is proven to help with your mental health and wellbeing, as well as your physical health.

Football Course

With Euro 2020 in full swing this is something the girls love to do. It’s a healthy exercise and can be loads of fun which will also improve their football skills, and it’s so simple to set up.

So there are a few ideas for summer fun in the garden with kids. What games or activities do your kids make up in the garden? I would love to hear in the comments below.
