Halloween Is Here!

Some people love Halloween and it’s an important date in the year for them. For me I’m neither one way or the other, but it has definitely become an occasion that is now celebrated in the UK more than ever before. Once again the influence from America has come in all its full glory. Just like McDonald’s, Burger King and KFC arrived here from across the Atlantic all those years ago, although being a fast food fanatic I’m not moaning about that!

Halloween is now very much an important part of the uk’s calendar dates that you ignore at your peril, well we don’t it ignore it. Because our children will be sure to remind us. Seriously it’s almost impossible to miss, just walk into your local supermarket and the costumes, masks etc are everywhere.

I actually can’t remember as a child celebrating Halloween or doing trick or treating on the 31st of October, but I do it now as a chaperone for my six year old twin girls. There simply is no choice in the matter. Truthfully I’m not that bothered, because we will do anything for our children even it is doing trick or treat.

Halloween celebrations have started early for us. About two weeks ago the school the girls go to held a scaries and fairies disco where all the kids dressed up, which of course we had to go to. It was fun, but if I’m honest the girls enjoyed playing outside on the climbing frames more than the actual disco.

Last Saturday we carved pumpkins which has now become a yearly family tradition, and the older the girls are getting, the more creative their are with their designs. I couldn’t help joining in later and putting on a mask between the lit up pumpkins. My idea was to frighten the wife, but I forgot she can’t see further than her nose without her glasses so it didn’t work out very well that idea, haha!

The girls have also been making there own costumes and as you can see, very scary ghosts are the way to go.

So as I have said my six year old twins are growing up with Halloween being a part of their lives, and yes we will be out and about trick and treating, but I feel it’s so important to teach them to do it responsibly, but also obviously to enjoy themselves. Hopefully it will save on buying sweets for weeks on end haha!
