Here We Go: My Wife Announced To Me She Is Running The London Marathon Again!

My wife has only gone and decided to run the London Marathon in 2020. Is she completely out of her mind? Haha! Most likely! I couldn’t run 26 yards let alone 26 miles. So I have resigned myself that I’m about to become a London marathon widow for two years in a row.

Last year when she ran the London marathon it was without question an incredible moment to see my wife coming up the mall. It was emotional and such a proud filled moment. I actually didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. In fact I think I did a bit of both, but they were very happy tears I might add. The feeling was truly overwhelming and to have our seven year old twin girls with me in the stand, and watching them smile as their mummy gave them a wave as she ran passed gave me goosebumps all over. The one most dominating memory I have as she came passed was screaming her name to make sure she looked up and saw us waving and cheering. That still gives me the best feeling inside now.

We then rushed off to meet her and I’m not a person that is easily stuck for words, but upon seeing her I was speechless. All I could do was hug her and cry at the same time. It’s a strange thing, pride in those that you love the most in life. It’s truly overwhelming. Anyway that was the London marathon 2019.

Shortly after completing the London Marathon 2019, I just knew that she was going to apply for The London Marathon 2020. It was the odd comment here and there, and I always knew that she was never really happy with her time. She applied via the ballot, but of course the chances of getting a place are incredibly slim, and needless to say she didn’t get a ballot place, but I knew that was not the end of it haha! My wife applied for a charity spot and I’m not surprised in the slightest to say that she got a spot to. She will be running for the Shaw Trust Charity, a mental health and wellbeing charity helping to transform the lives of young people and adults across the UK.

The hard work starts now. The first thing is to raise the money for the charity, which of course is part of the deal and this year we have less time to raise the money, but there is no doubt we will succeed in raising the money.

My admiration for my wife is actually off the scale at this time. Her dedication and desire to achieve is truly incredible and as a parent to our seven year old twin girls she is the perfect role model. She empowers womanhood and that is something that she will pass on to her daughters in bucket loads. I just know they will go on to achieve their dreams and become successful, nice, kind human beings and that will be totally all down to their mum. Nothing will seem impossible to them because they have watched their mum take on life in such a positive manner.

For me, well, I will be playing the supporting role because over the next six months or so the runs will be organised and will start to increase to longer runs as time goes by. She will be out early in the morning or late at night. There will also be lots of visits to the gym for building up strength in her body. I will of course be there every step of the way supporting in anyway I can which usually amounts to me being there for our girls, and that’s absolutely fine with me.

So the journey begins again and yes, it’s exciting to watch my wife prepare herself to run 26 miles in the London Marathon 2020 next April, and yes I am in awe of her commitment, desire, and total dedication to achieve something, and like this year, myself and our twin girls will be there cheering her on.

I love you honey so much and my heart just bursts with pride for what you have and will achieve. I have no doubt you will beat the time you set this year easily. Run Wife Run!
