How Safe Is Your Office?
Working an office can be pretty hazardous. Everyday harmless looking objects can actually cause some pretty nasty accidents.
I know it’s not something that we think of on a regular basis, but like any job, they all come with their own risks.
For example, did you know that 7,495 people were injured due to flying/falling objects? Files, plates, and unsecured items are the main offenders.

You know that cupboard you have in the break room above the sink which contains mugs, plates, cutlery etc? Well, that could be pretty hazardous. One badly placed mug or plate could end up in someone getting injured.
Did you also know that broken office equipment can pose a high-level hazard risk, with broken office chairs and broken cutlery being very common.
I know it can be hard to get broken items replaced quickly if you work in an office environment, but by reporting the damaged item to your facilities department or manager, it can help speed up the process.
These are just a few examples of the hazards of working in an office, but there are lots more. This handy office safety graphic has lots more information about what other types of accidents can occur, plus it also has handy tips on what you can do to avoid injury.
Things such as identifying broken office equipment and telling your manager as soon as possible, making sure broken equipment is clearly labelled as a hazard if it cannot be fixed or replaced immediately.
Placing heavier items at ground level, not over stacking shelve and checking that items are always secured if placing on a higher level to prevent them from falling and landing on someone causing injury.
Thankfully, I’ve never had an injury in any of my previous office jobs, and even if you haven’t either, you should always be vigilant of the possible dangers that may be around.
