Learning to Unwind In Your Down Time
As a parent, you don’t tend to get much down time. You find yourself with something to do 99.9% of the time. Whether that’s the school run, work, chores, dropping the kids to their clubs and parties, food prep, bath time, bed time… the list goes on and on. But it really is important that you carve some down time out of each day for yourself. This will ensure that you have some time to sit back and relax and avoid the looming threat of parental burnout, which can prove bad for both you and your little ones. Even during our breaks, we tend to find ourselves searching around for things we can do that are productive. Avoid this. Here are a few different things you can do to unwind during those well earned rest stops.

Get Comfortable
First and foremost, get comfortable. Find yourself with some time in the house? Why not get as cosy and laid back as possible. Jumping into some Mens hoodies and sweatshirts, loose tracksuit bottoms and sliders or slippers can really help you to let stresses go. When we’re more comfortable, we’re more capable of relaxing. This is why we wear different clothes to work and to rest! Have a few different options so you can rotate them in the wash and ensure you always have something to lounge in.
Stay Commitment Free
All of your free time doesn’t have to be productive. If we find that we have a few hours, a morning, an afternoon or an evening free, we tend to try to fill it with plans with friends or others. This can be fun, sure. But if you’re looking to relax, you may want to actually just keep some time to yourself, commitment-free. This way, if you want to make plans on the day you can, but you won’t find yourself sighing and setting an early alarm to a plan you’d agreed to weeks ago and no longer feel up to.
Do What You Enjoy
Next up, do what you enjoy. For the sake of it. This could be learning a language, watching a TV series, playing an instrument, doing some craft, napping, doing a face mask… whatever. Take advantage of the free time you have to do something that you feel is emotionally rewarding.
Consider a Spa Day
We tend to associate spa days with romantic dates or girls’ days out. But there’s no reason a guy can’t enjoy the spa too. Book a slot, pack your swimwear and enjoy yourself. This is the perfect environment to relax and let your hair down in. Whether you opt for a swim in the pool, a sauna, a steam or a treament – such as massage – you’re bound to let off some steam.
These are just a few ways to unwind in your down time. Hopefully, you’ll get more of it. Every parent needs it in order to feel their best and to ultimately take care of themselves so they can take care of their kids.
