Living In A Cold Remote Area

I have always had a dream to live in an area that is very remote and away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Where I can enjoy life and just live at a slower pace.

I was born and and bred in the city and the speed of city life in my opinion is not a very pleasurable experience. Everybody, including myself, always seem to be in a rush and we never take the time to enjoy the beauty of life.

When I look around the world there are many places in the world that I would like to live, but one country that has always appealed to me is Canada. It’s still very much an unchartered area and there many places that you would definitely be living in a remote area. In fact over 70% of Canada’s landmass is inaccessible by major roads or rail.

For me, although I would like to live in a remote area I would still like the ability to get to the city once and while maybe visiting family. So how would I be able to visit family if I wanted? In Canada thankfully they have snowcats that are able to make winter ice roads or winter ice bridges out of snow so those unaccessible remote areas can be reached and you are not entirely cut off.

If you are to live in such a remote place that is cold and covered in snow most of the time, you have to make sure that your property is up to the job. You need to keep the place warm and you have to decide how you are going to power your home such as using a generator for lighting and cooking. Of course outside is also very important such as the roof. If you were to live in a remote area how would you occupy your time? There is unlikely to be any television to watch, although radio would be part of your entertainment. There is of course all the beauty of nature that you can take in, or it could be that you are into hunting and if you are then you will need all the right equipment and clothing and the right camping equipment for your hunting trip so you are prepared for any eventuality. It’s also important to have a quality crossbow such as a ten point crossbow so you have an advantage when out on a hunting trip.

Making the decision to live in a remote place is a huge life decision and will take a lot of research. I would need to research the area and quite honesty whether I would be able to survive being a city boy living in the wild and uncompromising countryside. In all honesty I would lose a lot of the comforts that I take for granted being brought up the city, and I would have to decide if I’m prepared to give up those comforts, because one thing is for sure they wouldn’t be out in the wilds.
