Men’s Fashion Through the Ages

October 7, 2016

I like to think of myself as quite a fashionable guy. I may not always wear designer gear, but I like to follow the latest fashion trends. All of this has got me thinking about how much fashion has changed over the ages and I have to be honest, it’s pretty fascinating!

From the high waisted, waistcoat wearing 30’s to the tracksuit bottom 90’s, I’ve shared some of my favourite and funniest fashions below!

The 1920’s
The age of jazz and a year that I myself would loved to have lived in, both for the fashion, but also for the music! Men of the 1920’s could often be seen donning brightly coloured suits with ties that were no longer as formal as those worn in the 1900’s.

Silks and suspenders, (oh-err!), were replaced with knits and belts as men wore more baggy trousers and smart white shirts were now starting to have a bit of colour about them.

Yes, I think I’d fit in rather well as a dapper 1920’s man!

The 1930’s

Moving onto the 1930’s or as I like to call them the ‘Simon Cowell Inspiration Years’, trousers were worn high and polo shirts were fashionable.

The 1930’s is a time that I really don’t think I’d fit in well with! I like my trousers around my waist and not my neck! I’m also more of a t-shirt man than a polo shirt man! I actually think of polo shirts as tops worn by children for school and not as a fashion statement!

The 1960’s

Fast forward a bit and we arrive at the hippy-dippy, flower power, 1960’s! Gone are the smart shirts and trousers, replaced with the more informal skinny, flared trousers, flower prints and vests! Men’s fashion during the 1960’s was definitely more effeminate and men were often seen with long hair, silk scarves and even jewellery!

The Now – 2016

Men’s fashion nowadays is about always looking trendy, therefore it’s forever changing. From low slung jeans, to tight fitting ones. Smart suits with slicked back hair and elasticated waist trousers even making a comeback.

Yes, I think I’ll stick to the now!

‘Simon Cowell Inspiration Years’ just made me laugh out loud!

I think that literally anything goes these days and an outfit would need to be pretty extreme to raise eyebrows now. Having said that, I’d raise my eyebrows if my husband put on a pair of breeches in the morning!

    Happy Friday 🙂 x
