Three Easy to Access Travel Destinations in the UK

It’s funny how things change as we get older. The things that were important to us in our youth, seem almost trivial now. I may not wear the latest fashion brands or go clubbing anymore, but I know what’s important to me nowadays and that’s my family.

My mum, is in her late eighties and has always loved travelling. However, age can often get the better of her which means she doesn’t travel as much as she used to. Finding places that are suitable for her to go to can be pretty tricky. I mean she wouldn’t be able to walk up a flight of stairs or climb a mountain, but that doesn’t mean she should be housebound either.

Chatsworth House, Bakewell

Home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, this is a house that my mother would love to visit. This lavish stately home has a noted art collection, plus a playground for kids and even a farmyard in it’s lush grounds. Lifts allow all visitors to follow the allocated tourist route and there are even adapted golf buggies which offer tours of the surrounding gardens. I can just see it  now! My mother in a golf buggy having the time of her life!

The Chill Factor, Manchester

The Chill Factor is the UK’s longest indoor ski slope. Wait! I know what you’re thinking! An eighty year old skiing? Well, believe it or not, The Chill Factor is home to registered Disability Snowsport UK. They have specially adapted equipment, and specialised instructors ensure that those with even the most limited mobility can enjoy all the fun of the slopes!

Haddon Forest Park, Exeter

My mum has always enjoyed the outdoors. When living in Australia she’d regularly go for a swim at the local beach, and can still often be found sat in the garden doing a bit of planting. Halton Forest Park in Exeter has a discovery trail with an even trail which is ideal for wheelchair users allowing all visitors a taste of the outdoors and even the chance of spotting a bird of prey or two!
