Mother's Day

March 6, 2016

It’s Mothering Sunday a time when we remember the important people in our lives and on this particular day for me it’s my mum.

My  mum is entering her twilight years and has now become quite frail and rarely leaves her home which is a terrible shame to watch as she was always very active, but unfortunately not any more.
Throughout my life, my mum has always been there for me. She’s a rock beneath me, a shoulder to cry on when things weren’t going right and she’s always there to have a laugh, and we have had many over the years. Whatever I needed my mum was always there.
The times have changed as my mum has got older and less able to do the things she did with ease before so I now do those things.
I at times now feel like the parent actually looking after a child. It never ceases to amaze me that the older she has got the more dependent she is on me for literally everything and of course it’s no problem doing it. I mean my mum after all looked after me, she nurtured and brought me up. For that reason I will do everything I can for her.
Which brings me to a sad part of my mums life. I am one of three children. I have an older brother and sister who unfortunately have nothing to do with my mum which I believe is tragic. What goes through the poor old lady’s mind on Mother’s Day is that two of her children want nothing to do with her and don’t regonize the fact that she is their mum. I can’t imagine how she feels, but it must be great sadness for her.
I am a dad of five children and if any of my children stopped talking to me I would do everything and anything to put it right instantly.
For all of that I will celebrate Mother’s Day with my mum and be happy that I have been loved all my life.
In life we have only two parents. I sadly had a very messed up relationship with my father, but have always been very close to my mum. Surely what happens in life can be put to one side and you can get along with each other properly.
On Mother’s Day if you are estranged from mum it’s a perfect day to make up and an opportunity to make someone’s day as life is too short.
