New Cabin Beds and the Twins

The difficult decision was what type of bed do we buy the girls? After looking at numerous bunk beds we decided against them even though that’s what the girls really wanted. One of the problems was room in their bedroom because bunk beds are actually quite wide. The deciding factor in the end was safety. The twins are only four years old and having one of them on the top bunk was just too big of a risk to take especially in the middle of the night. 

So finally we decided on cabin beds as a compromise between normal beds and bunk beds and the girls loved the idea!

We purchased the cabin beds and mattresses from Argos. The beds cost £99.00 and the mattresses were also £99.00. This is where I wish I had only one child, but no I had to go and have twins! Expensive business having to buy two of everything!

We arranged for a home delivery and everything was delivered by Saturday morning, meaning my Saturday morning was all planned out! This could be fun! Not!

The beds were flat packed and the cardboard packaging was quite flimsy. After I had unpacked the beds, I found out just how weak they were as one of the beds had some damage, although only superficial and it wouldn’t affect the construction of the beds. 

The instruction manual was excellent and detailed and gave simple step by step guides with all parts being easily identifiable. I have learned from previous flat pack furniture that it is vital to follow the instructions exactly and they will go together easily, although this does take longer, but it’s worthwhile. 

Three hours later and yes a little bit of swearing and a bad temper in the beginning I had completed one cabin bed. 

Time to put the new memory foam mattress, which I think is more comfortable than my  own bed. I know where I’ll be sleeping when my bed gets too crowded!

The joy of twins is that now I had to do all this again! I was definitely a little bit quicker, but probably only by 30 minutes! So in total to make it took me about five and half hours to put both beds together!

My overall view of the cabin bed is that they’re excellent. They are functional with loads of storage space underneath and a little cupboard in the middle which R thinks is wonderful because she can keep her special toys there. Both the girls fold up their clothes and pyjamas and store them underneath. 

They look good and are perfect first full size beds for the twins. 

One final note we tweeted Argos care about the damage and they gave us a £30 refund as a gesture of goodwill which I thought was excellent customer service.
