Painting a UPVC front door

November 2, 2015

Just recently I was employed to paint a front door which was made of UPVC. The coating that is applied to UPVC doors had over a period of time peeled away and flaked.

The first part of this job was to find a paint that would stick and allow an even top coat finish.

I decided to use Dulux super grip primer/undercoat which comes in two parts. You mix them together before applying to the area.
Next was to sand and remove all the flaky bits to give an even finish.
I applied one coat of the primer/ undercoat and allowed to dry overnight.

The customer then had some paint mixed up which was weathershield quick drying satin finish paint in a colour that was identical to the original colour. This was done on Dulux mix lab by scanning the colour from a picture.

I applied three coats of paint with a brush making sure it was completely covered.
The final result was so much better than I thought it would be as I have tried painting UPVC before and it’s not looked very good, but this Dulux system is excellent and as you can see gives a fantastic result.
