Piccolo Tomatoes A Healthy Meal And Snack Option AD

September 16, 2019

When you are a dad of seven year old twin girls it can be difficult at times to cook a meal that they’ll both enjoy. Even though they’re twins their taste in food can vary quite dramatically. However, they do have one thing in common. They both love fruit, vegetables and salads. One of their favourites is tomatoes, in particular piccolo tomatoes.

So when I was recently approached to team up with Gautier Semences, the providers of piccolo tomato seeds to British nurseries I said yes. They very kindly gifted us some British piccolo tomato. The British piccolo tomato is the smallest and without a doubt the sweetest tomato there is. I received a delivery of piccolo tomatoes from Eversham Vale Growers and I actually had to stop myself eating all of them before the girls got home from school because they are quite simply delicious.

With the girls just recently going back to school after the summer holidays the one thing I always do in our home is their packed lunch and morning snack. As mentioned above, they both love eating healthy foods. This means making their lunch boxes pretty easy. On the day that the piccolo tomatoes were delivered, when the girls got home from school and saw the tomatoes, they both instantly said I want those for my break in school tomorrow. Of course they did! Mind you I had to stop them eating them all before bedtime!

The piccolo tomato is a perfect way to compliment any meal or snack. We’ve been trying out different ways to incorporate them into our daily meals and snacks.

Our evening meal the other day was lamb chops, mashed potato and of course I added some piccolo tomatoes to the frying pan with the lamb chops

During the day, when the girls came home from school I made tomato soup using piccolo tomatoes. It was ready to go as soon as the girls had changed out of their school uniforms. All that was left to do was serve it up with some French bread.

On the weekend the girls love to have what they have named a ‘fun lunch’. What that actually is, is a plate of small portions of food, and adding piccolo tomatoes is an absolute must.

As I have said the girls will eat just about anything. Another real winner as a snack is a tuna salad with of course piccolo tomatoes being a main ingredient.

The piccolo tomato is full of healthy nutrition. They contain a carotene called lycopene which is a proven anti-oxidant. This helps repair damaged cells and of course they are full of vitamin C which helps boost the immune system making them perfect for growing children.

They are also ideal for picnics or days out. As you can see when we went on a day trip the other day, they are that scrummy that even unicorns and werewolves love them!

The piccolo tomato is bursting with the most delicious, sweetest juice. It’s incredibly versatile and whether you are having it as a snack or making a soup as I have or just simply adding it to your evening meal. The piccolo tomato is incredibly versatile and my twin girls love them, so with them back to school I don’t have any problems with their packed lunches or their morning snack.
