Places To Visit While On A Family Holiday In Falmouth

As a family we have always gone camping. We usually head towards a campsite that is normally located in Devon or Cornwall. Cornwall is a particular favourite of ours as they usually have campsites that are close to beaches which is perfect for my ten year old twin girls because they love water sports.

This year we’ll be going camping as usual and our thoughts have turned to having a holiday in Falmouth. Falmouth is a town situated on the south coast of Cornwall in the south west of England. It is synonymous with the sea, in fact it is also known as the spirit of the sea. It has a very deep harbour and many historical attractions and beaches that you can visit.

Here are four places that we will be planning to visit when holidaying in Falmouth.

1. Pendennis Castle

Pendennis castle is perfectly perched on the rocky headland that gives incredible 360 degree panoramic views out to sea. You can either walk around the moat or go straight into the castle. Whichever you decide to do, you will be amazed by views, history and the location of Pendennis castle. Pendennis castle is a coastal fortress that is filled with secrets and lots of mystery which leads to Pendennis point. A must visit.

2. Beaches

Falmouth has many beaches on offer and all are truly amazing, but the jewel in the crown of beaches is Gylly Beach in Falmouth. Gylly beach is situated at the bottom of St Michael’s subtropical gardens. It is a sandy, sheltered safe blue flag beach and has crystal clear, turquoise waters. it is the perfect safe swimming spot. As I have mentioned my twin girls love water sports and Gylly beach offers paddleboarding, snorkelling and kayaking. Gylly beach also offers spectacular sunrises and sunsets for a memorable beach walk.

3. Gardens

If you want a change from the beach then Falmouth has some fantastic green spaces to visit from prehistoric looking paradises to prim and proper gardens that would be perfect for afternoon tea. You can easily visit some of Cornwall’s bigger gardens such as Trebah, Trelissick, Glendurgan or Eden. Some beautiful gardens for a picnic in the sunshine.

4. The Pavilion

The Pavilion can be found between Gylly Beach and Castle Beach. It really is a stunning venue that is just outside of town and right opposite the beach. The Pavilion is a venue that is used for music, food, drink and many community events which take place throughout the entire year and is in the multi-award winning public garden of Gyllyngdune. So if you are looking for something that is a bit different to do during the day or an evening out then the Pavilion is the place to visit.
