Proud to be a Welsh
Growing up one of things that United Wales as a nation was the rugby union. It’s without question our national sport and nothing brings the people of Wales together better than rugby.
Wales is a small nation, but a very proud nation and nothing more than rugby union highlights this. From a small pool of players we constantly produce world class teams.
Last night we played the old enemy England. It’s the one team every Welshman wants to beat.The pre-match hype was England would brush aside the Welsh, but obviously the Welsh team didn’t read the script.
The match started with massive intensity and physical battles all over the pitch and the first half belonged to the English running in one try and leading at half time by seven points. The second half started with England increasing their lead to ten points.
Then something happened to make you realise how special it is to be Welsh born and bred. The Welsh team found belief, dug deep and started to dominate the match with Man of the Match Dan Biggar calling all the shots. An injury ravaged Welsh side were taking England to task and it was only a matter of time before the Welsh scored a try.
Two more Welsh players went off injured and you would have thought that it was over, but no! The Welsh mounted an attack that resulted in a stunning try under the posts by Gareth Davies to level the scores. A few minutes later Wales were awarded a penalty on the halfway line. Up stepped Dan Biggar. He hadn’t missed a kick all match and cool as he can be he kicked this one and he made it look easy, but easy it was not giving Wales a three point lead with just minutes to go. Wales held on to beat England in their own back garden. Absolutely brilliant!
Being Welsh is not something most people understand unless you are born Welsh. Our pride is unrivalled anywhere in the world and last night the Welsh rugby union team did the Welsh nation proud by winning a game that seemed impossible, but yet we produced the possible beating the hosts of Rugby union World Cup that most thought we couldn’t do. Bring on Fiji and Australia! This World Cup could be our time!

I live just the other side of the Wales/England boarder (on the english side) so Wales England matches are always suported 50/50 in our local. I actually stayed in to watch this one and was glad about that. We should have gone for a draw in the last minutes, but never mind, all we have to do is thrash Australia and we can have another go at beating you in the final 😉 #AnythingGoes

Well I don't know anything about rugby but your enthusiasm sure is inspiring! I love learning of where other's place their pride based on their nation's traditions. I'm American but I spent my childhood in Germany with a mother who's from Okinawa, and my adult life (until this year) in Hawaii so I have so many influences but am ashamed to say I don't know what I could get this excited about. 😉 #bestandworst I love my diverse experiences but it would be nice to know "where I come from" like you do. You give me something to think about. Thanks for sharing.

I've heard about these fierce Welshmen…similar to our American football fans, I imagine. Do you tailgate like people do in the US before a game?

Our house is divided as Rev T supports England whilst I and the Tubblet support Wales. (The Tubblet has been encouraged in this by my dad, proudly supporting Wales for over 80 years). By the end of the evening, there was an English and a Welsh sofa and one was much happier than the other! Hopefully tonight's game will go equally as well.

As an ardent British unionist I have one thing to say: A.B.E. Anyone who refers to themselves as *ngl*sh (I consider the E word to be a vulgarity, much to the bemusement of my Scottish wife) and supports an *ngl*sh sporting team needs their head examining. *ngl*nd has never been any good at sport. Hasn't won the football world cup in 40 years yet every time it comes around *ngl*sh sporting arrogance rears its ugly head. Well done Wales. There was a lot of swearing in this house last week when we lost against Wales and again last night! So disappointing. Well done to the Welsh though, I used to live just over the border in North Wales so I might support Wales a little (just don't tell my husband!). #KCACOLS
