Re- decorating a bedroom after 20 years

October 27, 2015

I was recently employed to re-decorate a bedroom in a semi detached house in an area on the outskirts of the city. The house is approximately 60 years old.

This bedroom had not been  decorated in approximately 20 years so it was looking very tired and there had been a water leak to one wall so it was definitly in need of some TLC.

The first job was to remove all the wallpaper. For this I used a steamer and although this is usually easy with a steamer it took a while because the wallpaper was so old.

The next job was to repair the water damaged wall. I removed all the loose plaster and skimmed the wall with ready made plaster to achieve a smooth finish for the new wallpaper.
I then painted the ceiling in Dulux White Matt emulsion (2coats using 2.5 litres of paint).
Then I needed to prepare the undercoat and gloss all of the woodwork which included four wardrobes  (the colour I used was Dulux gloss classic cream which I had mixed up at the Dulux mix lab in Homebase (I used 2.5litres of gloss).

Finally I hung all the new wallpaper using a super fresco patterned wallpaper which was supplied by the customer.

The finished result has lifted the bedroom and given a feeling of freshness and light.
