Renovating a Vintage Motorbike

In my youth I was known to like my motorbikes and as time went by I became a father and yes, this meant I had to become responsible so many things had to be put to one side. No longer can you do things in a spontaneous way such as pop out for a meal or go to the cinema. When you have children you have to organise childcare and make sure it doesn’t interfere with family life.

Of course this doesn’t last forever. Your children will grow up and you will find that some time for yourself returns and you can start to do things that you are passionate about again. As I previously mentioned I have always loved motorbikes and a particular dream of mine was to renovate a motorbike that has seen better days back to its former glory.

I will be looking for a motorbike that needs to be stripped right down and then re-build it. I have always loved making something work again.

My plan is to strip the motorbike down, take the engine completely apart and make sure all the original parts of the engine are not only working perfectly, but also look perfect. Of course many of the parts of a motorbike engine are made of special metals that will require specialist attention to bring them back to good working order. If the motorbike has not been used for many years the engine parts will have built up quite a lot of grime and that will need removing so when the motorbike is fully rebuilt and you start the engine for the first time it will purr like a cat or possibly roar like a lion!

This is where a specialist is needed. You will need a company that can use a cleaning process called bead blasting. Bead blasting is a way of cleaning things such as cylinder heads using non metallic abrasives to give a perfect uniformed finish even on awkward shapes such as a cylinder head. It’s very cost effective and can restore tired motorbike parts back to look like when they were new. It is so important that special metals are cleaned in a way that makes sure they not only look good but also work perfectly when they are put back together, especially with engine parts, and bead blasting is a great way of doing this.

Now all I have to do is find the right motorbike to renovate and get it to my home workshop and spend my free time doing something I love, and of course get it ready for summer to go on bike rides with my friends.
