Revitalising a tired looking kitchen
I was recently employed to re-decorate a kitchen in a semi-detached house. It was in need of a lift and as it had been seven years since it had last been decorated because I did it back in 2009.
It had been previously painted in a pale lavender colour and the customer was looking for a complete change.
The first job was to repair some hairline cracks in the walls. To do this dig the crack out so it’s a bit larger and then fill with a quality filler and sand down ready for painting. Prime the filled areas to prevent further cracks.
The next job is to paint the ceilings in Dulux White Matt emulsion and apply two coats of paint. Make sure you give adequate drying time between coats.
Now it’s time to paint the walls. The customer chose Dulux Matt emulsion and the colour chosen was Well Being, a light green shade. Again apply two coats of paint.
In this case, which can happen, the walls required three coats of paint as the old colour was showing through in certain places. Again allow adequate drying time between coats.
Finally all the woodwork was painted in Dulux quick drying satinwood and again using two coats of paint.
The overall result is that it looks like a new kitchen, full of life and totally refreshed. The colour chosen has actually given a feeling of width in what is a narrow kitchen. An overall stunning look and a completely different look which is what the customer was looking for.

How long did it take to paint the cabinets? Did you remove the faces? Were the drawers or cabinets painted inside? Where do I find Dulux paint? Is it primer included? What product did you use to seal? Angela

Angela, I don't think the blogger painted the cabinets, just the walls and ceiling. Looking at them, I'd say they were bought as white cabinets and not painted at home.
You can find Dulux paint in most DIY stores here in the UK. If you want primer included, my "go to" paint is Valspar from B&Q.

It's good to see how you protected the cabinets. Oh how I hate prep work!! The kitchen here at OneandSeventy is my big project for 2016. The ceiling and walls I'm not so worried about, but I'll also be breaking out the Zinsser to paint our very orange oak cabinets. Eeek! Sue #MakingHome

I just bought a bin in this exact colour! It was on sale in TKMaxx. Would match here perfectly. Great job. Certainly refreshed and a fab bright colour.
