Saving Money When Renovating Your Home

When I was growing up, especially in my mid teen years, I had a passion for DIY. I loved it!

Being in a single parent home with my mum, there was always to something to improve in our home. When I left school at 16 it was no surprise that I would find an apprenticeship in the building trade, which in my case was painting and decorating.

Painting and decorating was always a big passion of mine, and I put this down to the fact that actually I was very good at it.

When I bought my first house I wanted to buy something that was quite old, and that needed renovating. I wanted to bring it back to it’s original look, and give it a new lease of life.

However, one of the problems with older houses is that they have had years of change which invariably were fads of the day, rather than something that had style and class.

All those years ago, one of the biggest problems in trying to renovate your property back to its original state at an affordable cost was accessing materials that you needed to renovate it with. Of course there was no internet in those days and it was difficult to find a supplier that could help.

So if I was renovating a property today, a lot of problems I would face in finding the exact materials all those years ago have been eliminated. The internet has helped me to find exactly what I want and more importantly at the right price.

Whilst I was browsing the internet looking for a particular item I needed to complete a job I was doing for a client, I came across the innovative and brilliant website called Builders Bay.

I had genuinely never seen anything before that was totally dedicated to DIYers and renovators in helping them find exactly what they need.

Builders Bay came from an idea to reduce the huge amount of waste from building projects. I found it staggering that excess materials went straight to landfill. This is a great forum that connects sellers with buyers through an online marketplace, but you don’t buy from the site, you purchase what you need direct from the seller.

For the seller it’s the easiest way to sell any excess stock, ex-display stock or any exclusive offers you may have. This of course will free up valuable storage space.
