Last Friday my six year old twin girls had their family school class assembly. This is their third class assembly since they started at primary school.
Looking back at previous assemblies in nursery and reception, I vividly remember the girls looking like rabbits caught in the headlights of an oncoming car, very nervous and and if I’m honest looking like they were about to burst into tears at any given moment.
So it was lovely to watch the new found confidence that was plain for everybody to see. It’s amazing what a couple of years can do to a child’s confidence.
I think a lot of it comes down to the fact that they feel comfortable in school, and with the surroundings. It’s no longer that big building that they initially weren’t very sure of. School is very much a normal part of their lives.
The theme of the assembly was all about Wales, which was absolutely fine with me being the proud Welshman that I am. It was also nice listening to other children talk about where their family live, as it was all over the world.
All the children had small speaking parts and it was fab to see my twin girls deliver their lines in good voice and get them right. They also sang some songs in Welsh which was also nice that our school is trying to keep the welsh language alive.
After the girls had finished the assembly, the school served tea and coffee for the parents and the children had squash and biscuits, and we got a little time together to congratulate them on a fantastic assembly.
My six year old twins are growing so quickly and developing quicker than I can keep up with at times.
Being a dad watching your children grow up really is the best job in the world, and I didn’t stop smiling watching them in their class assembly.
