Some wonderful comments by people about twins
My twin girls are now four years old and I have lost count of the amount of times that total strangers say the same thing about twins. The girls are not identical, but look very alike. However R is slightly taller than M.
The other day my wife took the girls to the opticians for an eye test. Beforehand they had lunch in a restaurant and a lady in the restaurant asked M how old she was. M turned around and said 4, but then the lady turned to R and asked the same question. Before R could answer, the lady said I bet you’re 5? R said no and then the lady said 6? 7? etc and my wife said she’s 4 too, they’re twins. The lady then turned around and said oh I thought so really!
I really wish I could have a pound for every time somebody says, “Twins? Double trouble?” Why do people say that? Its total rubbish!
I also remember in the supermarket a cashier passed a comment about the girls, saying there’s not much age gap between them is there? My wife very quickly replied, two minutes between them. They’re twins! The cashier said I thought so. Really? Then why did you ask then!
You always get people saying it must be hard, it must be very tiring etc. If I’m honest when they were babies yes it was hard at times, but we just got used to it. It was normal for us, nowadays it has got much easier because the girls play together on their own.
People really do make me laugh with all the twin comments, but I also find it infuriating that they have the myths about being a parent of twins.
1. Yes, it’s hard you are dealing with the same set of problems twice
2. Yes, they both want the same toy at the same time. The same thought comes into my mind everytime why and the argument starts over the same toy
3. They will usually kick-off at the same time. Or one will have a melt-down and then get over it, but just as they do, the other one starts to melt-down straight away
4. Meal-times can be a nightmare and usually are, unless of course one of their sisters or brothers eats with them and helps them then it’s easier. Incredibly they eat it all and in double quick time
I really could go on forever, but the truth is if you’re not parents of twins you simply won’t understand.
However, I have to say that watching twins grow up is fascinating and so interesting. Its a joy to watch and I do feel blessed and very lucky to have twins.
So to all those people with their little jokes or comments about twins. I have already heard it ten million times!
