The Importance Of Life Insurance For Your Family
This is a paid collaboration with Caspian Insurance
This year has been one of the strangest times that the world has ever known. The unthinkable happened. A global pandemic that struck fear through the very heart of the human race. The Covid-19 pandemic has made me realise, and I’m sure many other people too, just how fragile and unsure life is. Not that I needed a reminder. As many of my readers know I have had some serious ill health in my life which happened just a few years ago so I’m now more than fully aware of how important it is to protect your family should you suddenly die or can’t work because of an illness that might incapacitate you. This is even more important because being a self-employed painter and decorator, if I don’t work, I don’t earn. I’m sure that many more people through this pandemic have realised that you can’t predict the future. We simply can’t control what happens to us in the days ahead, but what we can do if the worst happens is protect our loved ones so they are adequately looked after financially while they adjust to life without you, or if you can’t work due to ill health or an accident you could receive money so you can concentrate on getting better.

As I already said there have been two occasions that taught me the importance of getting the right insurance cover should the worst happen.
The first occasion was about six years ago. As a painter and decorator one part of my job involves climbing up and down ladders. For 99% of the time this is perfectly safe, but it has hazards and sometimes when you think your ladder is perfectly secure you can be wrong. On one such occasion, I was wrong. I was rushing to complete something to start a job the following week, needless to say that’s when accidents happen and unfortunately it did.
That day I came off the ladder and on the way to the ground my arm got caught up in the ladder and I landed on top of my wrist and broke my wrist in four places.
This left me unable to work for 6-8 weeks and left me also wishing I had taken out Income Protection insurance which I hadn’t, because like a lot of people I thought nothing would happen to me. My immediate thoughts were how am I going to pay the bills and quite honestly just cover our general living expenses. It was a very worrying time, but we managed to get through it, but it would have been made much easier and allowed me to concentrate on getting fit for work again if only I had Income Protection insurance.
I have teamed up with Caspian Insurance who are an insurance brokerage based in Manchester. They have been helping families find the right insurance that is affordable to them. They work with many of the leading insurance providers in the UK including AIG and Legal & General.
All of their advisors go through a rigorous training programme in advice and customer service before they are authorised to offer any advice to customers. So when you speak to an advisor, you can trust their advice.
What makes Caspian Insurance the insurance company to choose?
They could save you money and time by searching a wide range of insurers for the best deals to suit you. Their extensive knowledge means they can provide suitable policy options. All of their advisors are UK based. They can tailor your policy so you are confident that your loved ones will be financially looked after should the unthinkable happen. They also have a free trust service. I mentioned earlier in the post that there have been two occasions when ill health has struck me in my life. Regular readers will know that approximately three years ago I suffered a stroke which was to say the least, quite a shock at my age, and it certainly put my life into perspective that without any warning I suffered a stroke.
I was happily watching television in the evening and all of a sudden began to feel very unwell. I was rushed to hospital and instantly started to receive treatment.
After investigation and many tests it was discovered that my blood pressure was at a dangerously high level which I knew nothing about until that night. There were no tell-tales signs that my blood pressure was so high prior to that evening, which is very scary. This is why high blood pressure is known as the silent killer.
Thankfully I have been left with little or no lasting issues with my health, and of course my blood pressure is now kept under control with a combination of medication and exercise.
After I was released from hospital and was recovering at home, many thoughts came to me, most importantly was that I was lucky to still be here with my family and I would be able to watch my children grow up. The truth is, it could have been so different. I might not have survived the stroke and I would have left this world leaving behind my wife and five children, but would I have left the world knowing my family was looked after financially, yes, I would because I had life insurance in place should the worst happen.
Life Insurance is so important to make sure your family is looked after financially and I believe everybody should have it. It would be hard enough to deal with losing me forever and the grieving would have been made even more difficult if you add financial problems on top of that. Making sure your family is financially protected in the worst case scenario is vital to ease the loss of a loved one.
As I have said, I was lucky. I recovered to full strength and was back in work in quite a short period of time. It was still a worrying time, thinking about how we were going to pay our bills, which is where an insurance policy for Income Protection cover is important to have in place so you can concentrate on getting well and not worry about the rent or mortgage. I started this post talking about the current Covid-19 pandemic that is sweeping across the world. Who would have thought that in 2020 we would be living in lockdown because of a disease that can kill our loved ones so unexpectedly. It highlights just how fragile life can be, but also highlights how important it is to have life insurance should you die or Critical Illness cover if you are unable to work for a period of time
Making sure you have all the right life insurance cover for you and your family is something that all families should have, because losing a parent is bad enough but leaving your children without any financial security is in my opinion unacceptable. Make sure your family is looked after should the worst case scenario happen to you.
This is a paid collaboration with Caspian Insurance all thoughts and opinions are 100% mine.

Great Post nigel. I’ve always never really thought about life insurance but sorted a policy a couple of years ago.

I never heard of Income Protection Insurance. I’ll have to look into it. I need to make sure I’m looked after and can take care of myself because I’m single and all of that rests solely on my shoulders.

Insurance is a super important part of life. It is easy to think we won’t need it at a certain age. Your story proves its not to be delayed. Glad to hear you are fully recovered #ThatFridayFeeling

Well I knew about your stoke but not about the broken wrist! I think you’ve proven the importance of life insurance several times over Nigel.

It’s so true that we never know what is around the corner. I had to get life insurance as part of our mortgage deal but it definitely gives peace of mind knowing I have it! #ThatFridayLinky

We are definitely big believers in insurance here. It is money you feel like you waste until you actually need it and then it is all worth it #ThatFridayLinky
