The stress of taking the girls to nursery on my own!

October 7, 2015

This is my second week of being at home two days a week with the girls. It has been an interesting couple of weeks.

My first time getting the girls ready for nursery was very stressful! I’m a very organised person, but having to think of five things at the same time was going to send my mind into a spin!

I got the girls uniforms all sorted the night before as well as their rucksacks so I could find them easily in the morning.

We woke at about 6.45am. The girls don’t need to be in nursery until 9.00am so we had loads of time.

Those two hours have never gone so quick!

My wife had left to go work by 7.15am and to be honest I was like a headless chicken. Giving the girls breakfast, getting them dressed, looking at the clock, trying to remember everything my wife said for me to do which included making sure they had something else to eat so they don’t get hungry at nursery. As the time went by I tried to get everything sorted coats, shoes etc.

My wife told me that the girls watched Timmy and Dip Dab on CBeebies and then leave for nursery.

First mistake – yes they watched Timmy, but R missed Dip Dab following her mad father around the house resulting in R having a meltdown, but I can’t turn the clock back even though R seemed to think I could so she could watch Dip Dab!

I am now totally lost!

What am I doing? All I can hear is myself shouting, “Girls! Coats, shoes, rucksacks!”

We are at the front door! Lets go girls! So we’re in the car, all ready to go! R says, “I need a wee!”  followed by M! Really girls? OMG! Back in we go, less than 10 minutes before nursery starts! Where has the time gone! I know parking will be a nightmare now as well!
I think I am actually sweating! We arrive at nursery with about a minute to spare. I had packed their blankets and toys in their rucksacks which turned out to be a mistake, although I thought I was doing a good thing!

In they go, all smiles and I go off to work for two hours working like I am possessed to finish a particular part of the job.

I arrive back at 11.30am in plenty of time only to be told by the teacher that I had packed too much into M’s rucksack and she couldn’t lift it as it was too heavy! In that brief moment I felt like I was back in school!

Over the last two weeks I have been to the doctors twice as both girls have tonsillitis . It’s probably the first time either of girls have been to the doctors in over a year and it has to happened in my first two weeks!

The girls are now getting better thankfully and on the fourth day which was yesterday they went in, happily gave me a kiss and cuddle and walked away, then they turned around ran back to me and gave me another kiss and cuddle, held hands and walked in together. It melted my heart. So cute!

It’s been a stressful time, but also a strange and difficult time, but I am definitely beginning to settle into my new role as a part time stay at home dad.
I am not sure I am getting any better because I feel really stressed on a Monday and Tuesday every time, but hopefully I will get better in my new role!

I loved reading this post! It's nice to see a Dad's way of a school morning. I would do anything to see my partner get our girls ready before school and do the school run without my help! He's never done it!
Parts of this post made me giggle so much such as the packing the rucksack! So funny!
Good luck with the rest of the weeks 🙂 You will get used to it and will become a little less stressful

I think I'm pretty good at organising and manage to get out the house quite early I think my husband will struggle about getting our daughter to school on time when she starts. Thanks for linking up #sharethelove

Sounds like you've been having some fun! Mornings are definitely the most stressful part of the day especially when you're on a time limit! Would love to see my husband have a crack at it! #binkylinky

They are so cute, I find it hard to get Alfie to nursery twice a week with the baby, it is quite a mission! I'm glad you are starting to find it a little easier 🙂 Thanks for hosting #binkylinky

It's nice to see that other people have mornings that are just as stressful as my own.. I thought I was the only one… You are doing a great job and so longs as the girls go in clean, happy and with a smile on their face who cares what mess and destruction is made along the way 🙂 it can all be sorted out later (which is usually my trick when I get home from the school run). x

I remember well the fear of being told off by the teacher (as an adult). You managed to get them there on time, so your doing great as far as I can see. #Binkylinky

My husband usually does the school run and on the odd morning I do it I'm just like you. We are always borderline late and sweating like a pig is par for the course I think! #justanotherlinky

It sounds like you kept in good spirits despite the rush. I do hate leaving my kids at school realising that I've been nagging and snapping at them, instead of enjoying the morning together.

To me if they get there on time with everything they need you're winning! Sounds stressful though. Thanks for hosting the #binkylinky

Aww you will find it gets easier, athough we still have mornings like this sometimes and my daughter is coming up 12. M|y husband only had to do this a few times when I have been too ill. Luckily I was too ill to care or I would have been redoing hair and repacking bags etc.

Keep up the good work and don't give up. The hugs and kisses will outnumber the stressful moments.
