In about four weeks time we will be going to Disneyland Paris, and if I’m honest it’s a worry to me when you travel abroad on holidays. The world is such a troubled place nowadays with conflicts that seem to be happening in every corner of the globe.
A few weeks ago when America decided to carry out bombing strikes on Syria and then basically tell France and the UK you are joining in with the strikes. You may consider this selfish but I don’t, my immediate thought was we are going on holidays to France and in particular Paris. I instantly thought will there be retaliation against France because they have certainly had their fair share of terrorist attacks over recent years. And nowadays it seems the attacks are very random and I imagine almost impossible for the security services to predict every attack. Which of course is the reason the terrorists managed to succeed on what seems like a more regular basis.
There was a time when a terrorist attack was a rare occurrence, but this of course is no longer true and it appears that it is very easy for terrorists to cross borders with ease into different countries which is leaving us all in danger of being caught up in a terrorist attack. This worries the hell out of me, and makes me question whether we should be going on holiday abroad, but then I think is it much safer in our own country? Most likely not.
My biggest fear when going on holiday abroad is I have my family with me, and I wonder if I would be able to do anything if there was an attack at say the airport. Would I be able to protect and keep safe my six year old twin girls. It’s hard enough when you are abroad to just work out what to do and where to go in a foreign airport and make sure you don’t lose your kids in very busy places. I have to admit I am forever looking at people in airports abroad, for the life of me I’m not sure why! I wouldn’t have a clue what a terrorist looks like. The fact of the matter is we have to put our faith in the security services of the world to keep us safe. That is quite a leap of faith considering that attacks happen on a fairly regular basis nowadays.
Once we have arrived safely at our destination for our holiday the fear for me changes to something completely different. We have been to Disneyland Paris before and I was very impressed at the levels of security inside and outside the park, but I seem to spend so much time holding on to the girls hands very tightly for fear of them wandering off and I can’t find them or even worse somebody has snatched them because let’s be fair Disneyland Paris has to be seen as a paedophile heaven, and would I be able to spot a paedophile? Not a chance.
Sometimes on holiday I just spend my time looking around at any dangerous situations that could arise and watching every move my six year old twins make.
We live in a very troubled world, and going on holidays abroad for me is just plain old scary. The world has people in it today that have a conscience when it comes to hurting innocent people. That is what frightens me the most. The world can be such a dangerous place, and these acts of total devastation can be be so random.
Do you worry more nowadays about going on holiday abroad? Does it scare you? I would love to hear your thoughts.
