Top Outdoor Trends To Refresh Your Garden

June 22, 2021

Summer has officially started… can you tell? It’s rainy, cold and gloomy outside. It just seems like any other day in England. Even though summer has officially started, this doesn’t mean much for us Brits. Summer starts when we can take out the barbecue and enjoy time outside, so any time now weather… (please!).

After everything that we’ve been through this last year, and are still going through, the last thing on my family’s mind is to go on holiday. Yes, we desperately need a holiday but we are choosing safety over a tan. Instead, we are going to do a few staycations and make the most out of our garden space. So, it’s the perfect time to give our outdoor space an uplift with some garden design ideas and make it really special.

Bring indoors outside.

Create a seamless transition from your indoor living to outdoor living by installing a modern retractable pergola. Designer Shade Solutions UK retractable roofs create bespoke retractable roof pergolas which can be customised with side glass screens, lighting and heating – this results in the most practical outdoor structure that you could add to your garden space. Want to use your garden or patio no matter the weather? Well, now you can. These pergolas feature a retractable and tilting louvered roof that can be easily closed, opened or tilted, depending on your requirements. A perfect addition would be a Hammock under the pergola to chill out during those hot summer days.

Flexible outdoor furniture.

As this article on Apartment Therapy asks, “Who doesn’t want their furnishings to work harder for them?” I want to make the most out of the things I purchase for my home and I’m sure you do too, so I’m up for this trend. Versatile outdoor furniture is not only a trend – it’s a great way to save space and money! “Look for dual-purpose items like ceramic stools, which can also be used as occasional tables, and things like stackable chairs. You might even find a table with a removable cover that reveals a fire pit!” continues the Apartment Therapy article.

Front yard as the new backyard.

We pay a lot of attention to our backyards but what about our front gardens? They deserve some attention too. A July Dreamer shared the front yard as the new backyard trend on a recent blog post and I think it’s a very clever one! “This trend is all about maximising your space and creating a welcoming and beautiful entrance to your home.” she said.  Plus, I believe we should pay attention to our front yards as it is, after all, they are the first thing your guests see when they visit you and your home, so the front yard should always be looking its best.

Wild gardens.

Tired of having to maintain your garden? Maybe this trend will be perfect for your garden. Not sure if I’ll adopt this trend but I can definitely have a little untouched corner of my garden to give wildlife a safe space. As this article on House Beautiful says, “Make your own haven for bees, birds, butterflies and hedgehogs by letting plants and flowers grow wild. More so now than ever, gardeners are planting flowers to encourage wildlife and insects. Not sure where to start? Opt for single-flowering varieties of plants and open flowers.”
