Twins That Have Entered My Life

April 9, 2018

There have been three sets of twins in my life, and there is no doubt it’s a very unique relationship that I guess is only really possible to understand if you are a twin yourself.

The sets of twins that I have crossed paths in my life started when I was a child, and a lot of what I say here is what I have been told over the years.

My biological father, who when I was child, had little or no involvement with me. I discovered when I was just entering my teenage years that he was actually a twin. I have to admit it was quite a shock to find this out. What came as a bigger shock was when my father and twin were born, my biological grandparents decided to split them up, and my grandfathers sister and her husband raised my fathers twin brother.

I have never been able to understand how you could just give away a child, let alone one child from a set of twins. It quite simply messes with my head.

I have often wondered is this what made my own father such a useless parent with a lack of such caring and regard for his own children

Well, I will never know now because actually they have died now, but the bond that twins have surely being split at birth must have left some affect, and then to find out years later you were a twin, that could easily screw you up.

Although I refuse to make excuses for his shocking parenting skills, or even the ability to be a dad at all, but just maybe this separation from his twin brother as a baby left him messed up as a human being, who knows.

The second set of twins that entered my life involves my wife she is an identical twin, and I have to say they are very close. They will speak to each other every single day which is lovely. A lot of that goes back to their childhood where they did everything together and were obviously the best of friends, as well as sisters. Their mum, who I didn’t know, was obviously the glue that held them together. Sadly she is no longer with us, but there is no doubt that she taught them the importance of being there for each other.

Even though they are identical and they are to look at, no doubts there, their character, temperament and personalities couldn’t be more different, but that’s a good thing, being individuals is also important.

Finally the third set of twins to enter my life are my darling six year old twin girls.

I would be lying if I said it wasn’t a shock to discover we were having twins. What I didn’t know at that time was how hard it was going to be to have two babies at the same time, seriously difficult. For all of that we managed and six years later we still have our sanity, well just!

The last six years have been totally awesome watching two children age at exactly the same time and develop into little human beings with all their own personalities and become individuals in their own right.

I only hope that over the years they develop the closeness that their mum and auntie have. That way they will never be short of a friend.

That’s the three sets of twins that have entered my life. Do you have twins in your life? I would love to hear.
