What I did on the weekend: It's trampoline time

May 8, 2016

Here in South Wales the weather was beautiful over the weekend with wall to wall sunshine. My 18 year old daughter also came home for the weekend from university and it was brilliant to see her and the twins love it when she comes home as they all miss each other so much.

Last Thursday I picked up a new trampoline for our four year old twin girls, following this guide on buying the best trampoline by trampolinea although my wife was trying her best to claim it for herself! Not a chance, although it has been difficult to get her off it since! Excited wasn’t the word for her, she couldn’t wait for me get home.
On Saturday afternoon after I finished work it was time to construct the new Sports Power trampoline from ASDA.
It was a 10 foot trampoline so lots of room in the garden was needed. It was very well packaged and had a full set of instructions. I will add that I followed the  instructions otherwise it could have gone very wrong. It will take two people to construct so I employed an apprentice for the job, but unfortunately I had to sack her (my wife) after just 20 minutes as there was far too much messing about and backchat!
So after a fair bit of interviewing I employed a new apprentice (my son). He was much better and there was no back chat! He followed my instructions exactly and yes of course he didn’t require any wages.
The first part of the frame was fairly easy to construct. This is the part that the trampoline is fixed to using the springs. Next is to bolt all the frame together and make sure they are all tight to the limit.
Next was to fix the trampoline with the springs to the frame. A tool is supplied to make this easy to do. Once that is all done you simply put the protective mat on to cover the springs and tie off underneath.
The final job was to put the net up. Metal poles are fed through the upper part and are very flexible. They are bolted together and a cord is supplied to tie the net to the trampoline frame and that’s it! One completed trampoline that took approximately 24 hours to build! No I’m only kidding, it took two hours to complete.
A couple of tips for constructing the trampoline.
1. When making the frame make sure all the holes are facing upwards for the springs before bolting together because I didn’t and had to take some bolts out and rebolt in the right position.
2. When putting springs on always pull to the frame, unlike me and it was getting harder and harder to get the springs. When I tried it the other way it was a piece of cake.
3. Always have somebody to help you. It’s a large trampoline and you really need a good apprentice and my son was very good. It’s not always wise to employ the first one (my wife) that comes along it doesn’t always work out haha!
The sports power 10 foot trampoline is excellent quality, very easy to assemble and great value for money. It’s very sturdy and looks great.
Our four year old twins have been on it so much and their mother has too. Yesterday I caught her using it as the new social media hub! I  also I caught her sunbathing on it, but I’m not sure if this is the correct use! However, I’m pleased the wife likes the new trampoline.
So here’s to a summer of fun with our new trampoline. Let’s hope our British summer is hot and loads of sunshine to get loads of use of our new trampoline.
