What To Do If You’re Locked Out Of Your Car
Just picture it, you’re having a hectic day, you had to run into the store for a quick pitstop, but when coming out, you just realised that you accidentally left your keys in the car. You just bought this family car, and now you’re having to deal with this very frustrating hurdle of trying to get back into the car! What can you do about this stressful situation?
While getting yourself locked out of your car can be incredibly frustrating, this is far more common than you may think. Everybody is going to have this experience at least once in their life with their car, it’s just something that unintentionally happens. But thankfully, there are tips out there to help you out with this.
Ask someone else to drive you
This can include calling a friend or family member. If you’re needing to go somewhere important such as work or some other time-related issue, then it just may be best to try to carry out the business of your car later when you’re finished with your time-sensitive things. This may not be an optimal option, but something such as getting your keys locked into your car shouldn’t entirely get in the way of you getting things done for the day.
Have a back up key
This could even include potentially have a transponder key replacement if this is needed for an old key. But, it’s ideal to have multiple keys. Maybe leave one at home, so someone can stop by your house and bring you the keys. It’s the more stress-free options. For others, they will have an additional key in the exterior of the car, such as around the wheels. While this isn’t entirely recommended, this could also be an option.
Try opening it from the outside by using a coat hanger or a screwdriver
You need to proceed with caution if you’re doing this, and it’s actually not recommended. Why? Well, you could potentially destroy the locking mechanism for the car. Plus, the coat hanger trick only works for older model cars where the window is slightly opened. This is a tip that is mainly not recommended.
If all else fails, call the police for assistance
This can very much depend on the area you’re in on whether or not the police will assist you. Since this is a non-emergency issue, it may take a lot of time to get a police officer to where you’re at to help you out. Usually, this is only considered an emergency is a child, such as an infant is in the car while the parent is locked out.
Call a locksmith
Locksmiths are still around and they’re still just as helpful as whether. While this can be the more expensive option, a locksmith will be able to get the job done for you. Do not let this option be removed only because you don’t want to spend the money on hiring one. They’re definitely worth the whole!
