Brilliant Dad Feature
This week our Brilliant Dad Feature is Phill and he blogs as Corporate Dad. Being a hard working corporate. He balances being a step dad, new dad and husband around all of this.
He Recently  starting blogging after the advice of his wife Rachel from VintageFolly.com. He had suggested that she blog about 4 years ago when she needed an outlet and her site gets nearly 300,000 views and it’s a massive supporting platform. He has loved it and met so many nice people already who’ve helped him and vice versa. Thank  you very much to phill for taking part.
1. Have you always wanted to be a dad?
I’ve always wanted to be a dad, but becoming a dad wasn’t the conventional way. I had the pleasure of becoming a step dad first and after years of saying I wasn’t ready I met my now wife and her daughter a few months later. From the moment I swung her round I knew I’d settled and that we’d be a family. We had to wait a further 6-7 years for our next addition due to problems and IVF, but Dorothy is here now and it’s a whole new world.

2. How did you feel when your children were born?

I was there for all of the labour, supporting a tired wife and giving it everything I had. When the moment finally arrived I couldn’t believe it was true. We went through so much to get to that point, the appointments, injections and scans. It was like wait after wait. I’m not an emotional person but I couldn’t help but open the floodgates and I kept repeating I can’t believe it’s worked. I’m welling up now

3. What have been your most rewarding experiences as a dad so far?

I’ve got two. As a step dad my most rewarding experience has been when I’m the rock that she confides in. That one person who she trusts to give her support. As a new dad it had to be when I walk in from a long day and work to be greeted by the biggest smile and reaction ever. Gets me through the evening.

 4. What are some of the funniest moments to have happened to you as a dad?
Funniest, there’s the ones that are just unreal can’t believe that happened and those that made me burst out laughing. My step daughter and I had an amazing 7 years before the arrival of Dorothy and we went to Switzerland one Christmas. At the top of a small hill on a sledge she jumps on and as the snow was about a metre deep she sinks and Mrs P and I cry laughing. Beth throws a moody strop as its not funny and before we know it her movement kick started gravity. Beths then whizzing her way down a hill arms and legs flailing like a out of control helicopter while we are rolling around in stitches. A proper national lampoon moment!
Dorothy’s given me some funny moments in particular. I would say it’s always funny to be around her however when something the size of my forearm is doing dad sized farts there’s a unique combination! Especially in the queue at Asda when non parents don’t understand that an asleep baby can create air biscuits! Always makes me smile now.

 5. Have there been any situations with your children  that you have difficult to cope with?

I’ve found it very difficult to manage the early months being the backseat parent. As we are breastfeeding and I’m working long hours, Dorothy was reliant on Mummy for everything. It’s quite a vulnerable place to be in knowing that they don’t need you. I turned my energy into looking after my wife and just remembered that I’ll be wanted soon enough so don’t wish the time away.
 6. What are your dreams and hopes for your children?

Dreams and hopes are always there for both children. I hope they both grow up to be well rounded, Independant and strong willed. My dream is that they develop a strong sisterly bond and are there for each other no matter who their biological father was. Sisters for life!
