6 Things Every Efficient Home Office Needs

October 11, 2019

Working from home certainly has its perks! You don’t have anyone counting your bathroom or coffee breaks, you can stay connected to your family, and it’s just so much comfier than sitting in a cubicle all day long!

If you’re lucky enough to work from home, or you’re in the process of making your home your place of work, then you’re going to need to create the perfect working environment that will keep you motivated and comfortable. Read on for 6 things every home office needs.

The right tech

You’ll need to work efficiently and with confidence in your new office, so investing in the right technology is a must. Whether you need a laptop, a Chromebook or a mac, you’ll be spoilt for choice. A good internet connection and even more than one monitor. You’ll also need a printer – something wireless will really streamline your working day, and not forgetting word processors and any software you might need to get your work done. You can find online services that provide spelling and grammar checks as well as the ability to proofread your work, edit it efficiently and check it for plagiarism. There’s nothing wrong with building a reputation for excellence and quality from the very start.

A comfortable chair

You’re going to be sitting at your desk for a substantial amount of time, so you need to invest in your comfort and your health. Finding a good office chair is a good place to start. Choose something that is ergonomic and will support you in all the right places. If not, then you could run the risk of hurting yourself.

Stationary

It might surprise you how many responsibilities you have now you’re working from home. Everything from IT support to health and safety is all down to you! Another responsibility is the stationary cupboard. Or box. Or draw! We all know how frustrating it is when we can’t find a pen – imagine struggling to find one when you’re on the phone to a client! Stock up on pens, pencils, sticky notes, notepads, printer ink and anything else you think you might need. Store it all neatly too.

A paper shredder

You might not handle many specific documents, but the ones you do come into contact with could have important, confidential or sensitive information on them. To abide by data protection laws, it’s handy to have a paper shredder. This way you can dispose of any documents safely and securely.

Back ups

It’s always a good idea to have your files backed up onto a secondary hard drive or upload everything to a cloud. This will preserve all your work and any important data you might have. That way, if the unforeseen occurs and you loose everything on your laptop, then you have backups to fall back on.

Somewhere to relax

Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you won’t feel the pressure or stress of an average office job. Dedicate some space in your office for some gym equipment, a comfy chair that you can read in or even somewhere to meditate.
