Acting like a four year old again!

At the beach you can get your bucket and spade out, and starting building the most incredible sandcastle with a moat that’s just far enough away from the tide before it starts to fill up and you can completely engross yourself in this very technical engineering project, making sure you have added strength in the right areas to withstand the incoming tide, and that the moat is deep enough, but doesn’t undermine the strength of the base! You can also add detail in the form of perhaps a Welsh flag, and all the while you haven’t noticed, in my case, that my four year old twins have walked away and are doing something completely different because basically daddy has got far to serious about his sandcastle, but I don’t care one bit! I get to be four years old again on the beach!

Then when you have completed this totally awesome sandcastle that would probably repel an invasion from the Spartans and many other ancient armies, as well as the tide being contained, you can defend your country.! It’s perfect behaving like a four year old, but with the advantages of being a grown-up to build the perfect sandcastle!

Then it happens just as you stand back and admire your brilliance at constructing this masterpiece, my four year old twins return to where you have been working tirelessly for over an hour and they show how vulnerable your sandcastle is by jumping all over it! That was war and tide proof, but not twin girl proof!

At this point as I look at my destroyed sandcastle and bordering tears I resort to a tantrum like a four year old, and looking for sympathy and comfort from my wife I am greeted with fits of laughter!

Amazingly there are no disapproving looks from anybody, just people thinking it’s okay, he is just playing and having fun with his children. Now had I have been on my own I’m sure the police would have been called and they would have locked up as mad as a hatter!

Of course you also get to play the age old game of burying daddy in the sand and just leave his head poking out which R and M thought was hysterical, and they really thought they had accomplished something!

Another game the twins thought would be loads of fun, and of course encouraged by their mummy was to pour ice cold water over daddy’s head, and this really was very exciting fun as you can see by the photo. At this point I’m not sure I felt four years old again, but more like very cold!

It’s great going on a summer holiday with my four year old twins. I get to relive my childhood just for a little time. Without any of the pressures that being adult brings such as earning a living, paying the bills, etc. How wonderful to forget all those things just for a short while! Being four years old must be wonderful. It’s just a shame you don’t remember it!
