Marineland in Majorca

A few years ago before R and M were born, my wife and I went to see a dolphin show in Valencia. It was the first time I had ever seen one and I was blown away by it. It was awesome!

On our arrival in Majorca we had already decided to book one excursion and obviously it had to be the right sort of show that the girls would enjoy too. Taking that into account, Marineland, with it’s dolphins, parrots and sealion shows was the perfect choice for our day out. 

We were picked up at 9.00am by the coach and the journey was about an hour from our hotel. This gave us the opportunity to see a lot of the island of Majorca.

We arrived at Marineland at around 10.15 am and everything was organised for us to enter quickly and efficiently. As we walked down into the park we were greeted by staff and a parrot for a chance to have a photo with the parrot. If i’m honest I moved the wife into position for the parrot to be placed on her arm! Ok, I was frightened, I admit it! Ha! Ha! 

We entered the park and the first thing we did was to find our bearings and where the Dolphins were because the show started at midday and we wanted to make sure we didn’t miss it. Once that was worked out we made our way around the park. 

The twins saw many unsual reptiles and animals which if I’m honest there were plenty I had not seen before either. There was an albino anaconda snake which was amazing, stingrays, sharks and some very brightly coloured frogs. 

We were now ready for the dolphin show. I’m not sure about the girls, but I was very excited for me! There is nothing quite like watching humans and dolphins connect in the pool. It is truly majestic and exciting. Between them all they performed a variety of amazing tricks with the dolphins, jumping ten foot out of the pool and the power to propel their handlers out of the water is truly awesome. 

One the handlers even surfed on the back of one of the dolphins across the pool. The girls faces were a picture! They were open mouthed in disbelief at what they were watching. This was definitely worth a visit for the dolphin show alone. 

Unfortunately the sea-lion show was cancelled because one of the females had recently given birth to a pup. 

We then had an ice-cream and made our way to the parrot show which was excellent and the girls loved watching the parrots perform their tricks, even flying very closely above their heads. It was very funny watching the girls duck their heads as they flew across!

The day had gone quickly and it was time for a snack. Our hotel had prepared a picnic for us so we sat down next to the paddling pool where the girls were able to have a play and use the slides. 

Finally before catching the coach back to the hotel our last port of call was to the gift shop for the statutory cuddly toy! The day wouldn’t be complete without one! Although it didn’t quite work out like that. 

Upon entering the shop where there were numerous animal cuddly toys of all the animals we had seen, M decided a beanie cat was what she wanted. I have to admit I was a little bit annoyed. I would have liked to her to have picked a dolphin or sea lion etc, something to remember the day by. However, after about two minutes I gave in and also said she could have another toy in addition to the cat toy, and before I knew it the girls had three toys each! Oh well! Never mind you are only here once! We went to pay and M had picked up a fourth toy. I didn’t have the heart to take it off her, so R went and got herself another toy. The joys of twins! Everything is doubled and needlessly to say it cost a fortune!

Marineland is a must to visit if you go to Majorca. It is a fabulous family day out and the dolphin shows are just brilliant to watch.
