I think it’s fair to say that things have been pretty tough over the last 18 months for everyone. However, none more so is this true than for our children.
Growing up, I remember spending every waking hour out with my friends. I’d meet them at the park or go over their houses and I grew older I’d hop on the bus into town with them to watch a film. Sadly with the way everything is at the moment, a lot of our children have had to miss out on these important social interactions with their friends.
They even missed out on school and the interaction they gain there with their teachers and friends alike. So, as I said, it’s been pretty tough year for everyone, but most of all for our children. It is for this exact reason why I want to give my children the best summer I can.
We may not be able to go on a holiday abroad, but now that restrictions here in Wales are starting to ease up slightly it does mean that our children can have a friend or two over in the garden to play.
I know I’m quite lucky in that we have quite a big garden for our children to enjoy. That’s why last year we decided to make the most of it by building our girls this amazing multiflyer deluxe climbing frame from Wickey (Disclaimer: This was a gifted item).
Just over one year on from building this, our girls are still getting a lot of enjoyment from it. It’s encouraged them into the garden and away from the TV. I really enjoy watching them playing on it and the little games they make up. It’s that kind of creativity they gain from playing outdoors that I want to embrace and encourage more of. That’s why I wanted to add another exciting element to our garden for my children. A sandpit!
The multiflyer deluxe climbing frame already has space underneath it for a sandpit so we have made use of this over the last year. It’s integrated into the climbing frame which I think is such a good idea because it doesn’t take up any extra space. However, Wickey have lots of different sandpits available on their website for those who don’t have the space for a climbing frame too. So, although we can’t holiday abroad this year, we are going to try and make our ‘summer at home’ the best one we can for our children. That means some play dates with friends in the garden, perhaps a BBQ, lots of paddling pool fun and I may even set up an obstacle course for them too!
