[AD] Marble Run From Build Your Own Kits Review

Back in the summer we reviewed the @byokits Telescope and Paper Plane Launcher. You can check out my review right here. Now we are going to review their amazing Marble Run.

We as a family love anything that involves assembling an activity or a toy, and when I was recently approached by Byokits to assemble and review their new marble run, well, you didn’t have to ask me twice. We couldn’t wait, especially considering how much fun we had. We enjoyed putting together the telescope and paper plane launcher last time.

Everything you need to make and complete a marble run is included in the kit. Contents include 143 slot-together cardboard parts and 10 swirly glass marbles, plus easy to understand instruction booklets.

First up was to construct the marble elevator. This is quite intricate and because my twin girls are only eight years old, I was very involved in the construction, partly because it had to be sturdy and we needed to make sure all the parts were secured firmly. 

The next part of the assembly was the towers for the marble run. This was something that the girls had no issue assembling and fitting to the base. Next up was to fit our marble elevator to the base and all of sudden it was beginning to look like a marble run. Now we had to construct the three neon runs. This was quite a challenge for 8 year olds but I was on hand to help with the more awkward parts. Finally we had to fit the vortex run and and then the marble run was ready to try out. 

To start the marble run you place the marbles at the base of the elevator and when you use the winder handle it picks up a marble and takes it up to the top of the elevator which is 50cm tall. It’s then released via the drop off hopper and on its speedy return to the bottom it will go one of three ways depending on which way the switches are. This is loads of fun because you are never sure which run the marble will take. In fact the girls started to race marbles down which was awesome fun and they loved it. 

The Build your Own Kits Marble Run is made completely from cardboard and all the cardboard is sustainable which is vitally important for us to help the planet. No glue or tape is needed so there is no mess or fuss. 

The marble run took quite a few hours to make, but it was a great weekend project for my twin girls and I to have over a couple of days and when we had finished it was hours of fun playing with the marble run. 

The marble run is suitable for age 8+ and it’s not suitable for under 3 years due to small parts. 

Final Thoughts 

The build your own kit Marble Run is great fun to make and definitely taught my eight year old twins patience, especially when fitting the more intricate parts. The instructions were very simple to follow and if you follow the instructions to the letter you will assemble the marble run without any issue. It has definitely brought out the engineer in one of my twin girls and it has taught them how to problem solve. It also sparked their imagination and creativity which is so important for young minds. Actually they are great fun for adults too! A perfect present for your other half this Christmas.
