[AD] Renovating Your Hall/Landing/Stairs With A Bespoke Staircase

In the home the one area that so often is forgotten is the hall, landing and stairs. I understand exactly why we tend to ignore this area. It is, after all, just somewhere where we walk through to get to the room we actually want to be in such as the lounge, kitchen or bedroom.

What we forget is the hall, landing and stairs are invariably the first impression we give out to anybody entering our home so why not make it a stunning area with staircases that jump out and simply say wow! Although it’s often a forgotten area in our homes, I firmly believe it’s an important area to focus on.

With my job as a professional painter and decorator, I have, as you can imagine been in many homes over the years and I have lost count of how many hall, landing and stair areas that I have decorated. Even though I have decorated the walls with either paint or wallpaper, and it looks very nice, I have on many occasions thought it is lacking something and invariably it’s the staircase. Just because it has been there since the property was built that doesn’t mean you can’t change it and open up the stairs and give it an open feeling but also stunning feel. There are many ways of doing this. Here are a couple of ideas if you are thinking of changing your staircase.

1. Solid Oak Wood Staircase

If your home is a period house such as Victorian or Edwardian this is a perfect solution especially if you have many period finishes such as cornices or roses in the ceilings for the light fittings and you have a dado or picture rail in the hall, landing and stairs. Having a solid oak finish for your staircase will give a stunning look, and be in keeping with your property.

2. Glass Staircase

During the 1960’s many houses were built with large hallways and landings and most of these properties were built with staircases that were blocked in with wood panels which simply cuts down on light and quite honestly makes the whole area feel very closed in.

So if you have recently purchased one of these types of homes that was built in the 1960’s, why not think of glass staircases. A bespoke glass staircase can offer a beautiful open feel to your hallway and landing and also give you a touch of class and sophistication and a very modern look which really has the wow factor.

You can either mix the glass balustrades with a wood finish such as oak or a white gloss or satin painted finish. This will bring your staircase to life and make it more than just a walkway to another room in your house, but a feature that you can be proud of.
