Air Hose Reel Mounting Ideas: Where Should You Install It?

March 23, 2023

If you’re someone that spends your nights tucked away in your garage working on small projects most would handyman services for, then you’re probably well-versed in DIY. Now, maintaining your car, fixing things around your home and embarking on imaginative projects is great, but most garages don’t have sufficient equipment to do so. One thing that professional garages have, that home garages don’t, is compressed air.

With compressed air, you can quickly pump up those flat tyres or attach air-powered tools to take care of bigger tasks. Although, installing a retractable hose reel is relatively simple, and financially-friendly considering the value you get with them. But, you need to consider where you’re going to position it, because having it lying around on the floor isn’t optimal.

So, once you’ve gone out and acquired the best air reel hose, you’ll need to scan your garage and consider what you normally use it for to determine where’s best to install it. In most cases, you’ll typically need a 2×6 board that you bolt to some studs. Anyway, these following things might help you to make a decision…

Ceiling

Arguably, the most efficient place to mount your hose reel is on the ceiling; it reaches everywhere and it’s completely out of the way. Here, you have two options – either mount it to the ceiling where it’s still visible or go all out and install it above the ceiling so only the hose is showing. This may take longer to complete, but the end result will make it all worthwhile.

Front of Garage

If you’re a car-enthusiast and you spend a significant amount of time working on it, then it may be a great option to mount the hose reel at the front of your garage. That way you can easily manoeuvre around the car and do what you need to do. However, if you need to extend your hose outside your garage, you may find it’s not long enough.

Underneath Work Bench

Some people don’t have substantial work benches in their garage, but if you’re one of those that do, then you can utilize the space underneath it. Place it under the bench, connect all of the airlines up, and then use some sort of plastic sheeting or wood to hide it. This is especially handy if you use plenty of air-powered tools on your bench.

Wall

Another option you can explore is mounting it to the wall near your garage door. Yes, it won’t look very aesthetically-pleasing having a big air hose reel on the wall, but you’ll find that it’s much easier to mount and you’ll have no problems with the reel. However, if you do care for how your garage looks, then this may not be the best choice for you.

Roller Cart

An innovative approach you could take with mounting your air hose reel would be to purchase a roller cart and install the air hose onto that. The compressor would sit on the bottom shelf, and the reel would attach to the top shelf. That way, you have an abundance of freedom as you can wheel your cart and air hose exactly where you want it.
