All Alone At Home For The Entire Night
Last Saturday night my wife and seven year old twin girls went to a sleepover party for their cousins birthday. It was a wigwam sleepover party. Now this was a completely new experience for the girls as they’ve never slept over anywhere. Saying that, they probably wouldn’t of slept over had their mum not also been sleeping over. Even though it was my wife’s sister home, that I’m sure of.

So anyways they left around two o’clock in the afternoon and I was left on my own for the first time in seven years. Yes I have been away on my own on a few occasions, but never have I been left with the house to myself and OMG, it was the strangest, most odd and weird feeling in the world.
I have been watching “The Fear Of The Walking Dead” so it seemed a perfect opportunity to binge watch a season or two to get up to date with it, which I will say I promptly did.
Did I enjoy my night and part of the day all alone? Well kinda, but also no!
I missed everybody so much. I missed the noise of children in our home, our children that is. I missed my wife saying “did you hear what I just said?” haha ,and me replying “of course” needless to say I actually didn’t have a clue what she had just said haha, but oh my goodness I missed that. I missed the girls laughing. I missed the hugs the girls give you for reason.
Throughout the evening I popped down to the chippy for a chicken curry and chips for my tea all the while thinking this is weird and I seriously don’t like it.
As the night moved along I was quite convinced that they would all be home soon. I was sure that the girls would decide that they didn’t want to stay and they all would be home by 9pm, but 9pm came and went and it was obvious that they were all staying over and I simply had to come to terms with it.
The hardest part for me, and yes I know it was only for a night, was that I don’t do well without my wife by my side in life. It may appear strange to some people, but that’s how we live our lives. We are family and as family we are together for the best 99% of our lives. We do everything together. Nearly everyday we pick the girls up from school together and yes, we’re definitely unusual in that respect but that’s our way. If I’m away even for one night which doesn’t happen often in a year, I’m thinking of how quickly I can get home to be in a bubble of love that my family enfolds around me.
I couldn’t sleep last Saturday night and ended up awake until about 2am. Our home felt empty, quiet and I for a better word felt lonely and ended up with only about five hours sleep because that finely tuned body clock that having children gives you woke me before 7am.
I missed them terribly and it’s not a feeling I want to experience any time soon again.
Family is so very important to me and being wrapped up in a family’s love is for me is what life is really about. We are a family, a married couple that does everything together without even a slightest inkling to do things separately.
We come as one and that’s the way I hope it will always be.
What’s important about family to you? Do you like being separated from your wife and children? I would love to hear in the comments below.

What a lovely post. I was just thinking as I read it that my husband and I are the same – we will always do things together if we can, even if it’s just doing the nursery pickup or going grocery shopping. I have a friend who is always trying to convince me to go away on girls weekends because she wants time away from her husband and kids, and I’m sitting here thinking I want MORE time with my husband and son. Okay getting a break from the toddler is nice but I’d much rather go somewhere with my husband than have a break from him. Luckily he feels the same way.

I can completely relate to this! As parents we jump for joy at the slimmest opportunity of a night off from the mundane, yet its not until you are left all alone do you realise that mundane life is everything and more. #ThatFridayLinky

Something strange is going on. I deffinately replied to this post yesterday!
Anyway, this hasn’t happened to me yet – in 16 years! We’ve had a rare night away and the odd date night, but I’ve never had the house to myself for a whole night. That would feel so weird.

I used to hate living on my own, so know how this must’ve felt. So strange #ThatFridayLinky

I used to feel as you did but for various reasons including one child leaving me, two increasingly doing their own thing and marriage tensions, I love my own company these days. Or maybe it is menopausal times as reading lots of novels where women seem to feel as I do right now. You clearly have a really tight family unit – all power to you and yours! #ThatFridayLinky #BinkyLinky

So funny. We dream about “alone time,” but when we have the opportunity, all we want is to spend our “alone time” with our loved ones!

What a lovely post your family are so close it’s beautiful. My partner and i used to spend all our time together however, due to his latest job he works nights and i did suffer with the empty feelings and he often works away from home which is mostly hard and unfortunately I do get used to my own routines and my own way of dong things with the kids which is difficult.

Our kids were with grandparents for 2 nights this half term & the silence at home was quite literally deafening, so I know what you mean! #ThatFridayLinky

I know what you mean. I definitely miss our children if they stay at their grandparents for a night, but at the same time, I will take any opportunity I get for a full night’s sleep! #thatfridaylinky
