Bonfire Night

November 6, 2016

I have to admit I have always been anti-fireworks and have always avoided going to firework displays. The reason is simple, as a child I saw a couple of friends get injured by fireworks. In fact one of them had life changing injuries so consequently I have always felt fireworks are simply dangerous and not worth it because somebody always seems to get hurt.

Saying all of the that though, Fireworks displays have changed a lot and I know are now properly organised and very safe, unlike when I was a child which were usually organised by dads on the estate which of course was a recipe for disaster!

So this year I relented and agreed to go to our local fire station where there is an organised firework display, what safer place than a fire station could there be?!

We arrived at 5.45pm and joined the queue to get in. The doors opened at 6 o’clock and we had a wander around before the bonfire was lit at 7pm. The girls were loving being in a fire station and spotting the firemen. We had beefburgers and hotdogs and got to the front for the bonfire.

The bonfire was lit and the girls were in awe of the flames shooting into the sky and as quick as the bonfire had been lit the first of fireworks exploded in colour and noise in the night sky. The twins didn’t take their eyes away from the sky as the firework display continued for about 20mins, they were loving every minute.

Then it was finished. This is the first firework display I have been to in many years, but it was fantastic to see my four year old twins enjoy the fireworks.

It was brilliant organisation and very safe and controlled by experts, and I actually had a fantastic time.

On the way out we had the perfect photo opportunity in front of a fire engine!

I have to say it’s one of the things I really miss about England.

I always used to love the local organised fireworks displays. Sounds like you all had a great time.
