My four year twin girls went back to school on Monday after a week’s holiday for half term, and amazingly they couldn’t get their quick enough!
Mondays and Tuesdays is my time with the girls, as mummy is in work, so I take them to school and pick them up.
I arrived at 3.20pm and you’re able to see into the classroom where we wait outside. I noticed their teacher handing out envelopes and I thought they look like party invitations.
The girls came out holding two envelopes each. Yes, they were party invites! I have no idea why the girls get invited to so many parties, but this month they now have four invites!
This all got me to thinking about what a busy, fantastic social life four year olds have today!
During half term they were going somewhere all the time! Halloween workshops, Halloween parties, a local play centre and visits to friends and family.
Now we are in party season, plus R is starting football and M is starting ballet so their little lives are so very busy!
This is all in stark contrast to my social life! OMG! What social life? I don’t think I have one unless it revolves around my children, especially my twins. It is so easy to forget that everybody including parents need a social life.
One of the downsides of parenthood is trying to maintain friendships and a social life. It is very difficult because you spend most of your time running around after your children taking them here, there and everywhere.
It’s the ultimate rollercoaster ride because you can’t get off. It goes around and around forever!
My greatest worry is, do we do too much with our children? Taking them on visits to farms, play centres etc, that eventually when you are just at home they bore easily because they have become so accustomed to this very busy and exciting life which in truth we as parents have created.
The difficulty of course is finding a balance between some quiet time at home and having treats that involve day trips etc.

We so all of these things with Corben too, then if you add Home Educating him there’s even more trips out and about. We’re out doing things at least 5 times a week but luckily he loves his time at home playing with all his toys too. Watching his imagination flourish is enough to outweigh the loss of a social life for me. I’m due to be social again in 14 years if you fancy a pint? 😀
