Brilliant Dad Feature week 7.
This week our brilliant dad feature is Mike who is a stay at home dad of four children from Florida USA and blogs at Sunshine Dad.
1. Have you always wanted to be a dad?
Always, I had such a great family growing up and I always looked forward to one day having my own family.
2. How did you feel when your children were born?
I was unprepared for the love that I experienced when my first child was born. The love a parent has for their child is a different love than anything else we experience. I also had such a feeling of pride which I realised was odd since they hadn’t actually done anything to make me proud of yet.
3. What has been the most rewarding experience so far?
The first time each child has walked up to me and given me a big old hug and said “I love you” has just melted my heart. The times when I get to watch my kids helping others and putting others needs first really makes me feel like I have great kids.
4. What are some of the funniest moments to have happened to you as a dad?
It’s hard to narrow it down to a few of the top funny moments. We laugh so much and have such a great time goofing around with each other every day. Just the other day my 2 year old daughter was eating yoghurt and had it smeared all over her face,she turned her head and looked at me and said “I’m a hot mess” I just laughed and laughed.
5. Have there been any situations with your children that you have found difficult to cope with?
Having to explain death to my kids was incredibly challenging.
6. What are your dreams and hopes for your children?
I want my kids to grow up healthy, happy and to love God and have families of their own someday.

Ouch, talking about death is not going to be a fun one for me, at least not when it inevitably will involve a loved one. I can understand why people buy their kids pets for that.
