Brilliant dad feature week 8
This week our brilliant dad feature is Brent from the USA. He is married and has two daughters nine years and six months old and he blogs at indianadad.wordpress.com
1. Have you always wanted to be a dad ?
I always knew I would be a dad one day, but you can never be truly ready for it. Yes you can have all the baby items, crib and other things that go along with it, but you can never be ready for the arrival. It’s a new experience each time and it’s great.
It is overwhelming. You are hit with every emotion, actually I am not sure how to describe it! Your excited, usually running on very little sleep, scared something will go wrong, but still wanting to look strong and in total control for your wife.
3. What have been the most rewarding experiences?
The most rewarding experiences are the little ones that just happen. You can’t take photos of them, they just happen! Sometimes when you need them the most. They are a look, a touch, a coo at just the right time.
4. What are some of the funniest moments to have happened to you as a dad?
Probably being peed on while having our family portraits taken. Everyone thought it was hilarious, although I saw it coming.
5. Have there been any situations with your children that you found difficult to cope with?
For me it has been school for our oldest. She does very well in school, but it is a daily stress for all of us. The school years feel (for me) like they move so quick there is always homework and projects needing attention. It feels like they really push kids harder, faster with very advanced material at a much younger age now.
6. What are your dreams and hopes for your children?
I want what all parents want. I want them to be happy, to have dreams and grow to be a good caring person and to be successful at whatever they do.

It's lovely to hear about dads who "always wanted to be dads" – I know there must be lots out there but you rarely hear it talked about. What a great idea this feature is!
