Children: OMG! The Cost!
Regular readers will know I’m a dad of five children. Yeah I know what idiot has five children? ME! Seriously though it’s the best thing that could have happened to me. Why?
Well, I wanted to be poor all my life and OMG, did it work! I thought when they were babies it was expensive, then when they became teenagers a lightening bolt hit me. The cost is phenomenal! All the lastest designer clothes, mobile phones, laptops etc. The list is endless. All of which costs a fortune. Then multiply all of that just for starters by three!
My eldest is 21 years old and working full-time now and in all honesty rarely asks me for any money. However, their was a time right through her teens that my hand never left my pocket paying for her mobile phone. Oh! Yes I remember that time she ran up a bill for over £100! I remember it well and going bonkers at her! What are playing at! Saying yes, my mother used to say to me! Do you think money grows on trees! Oh No! I turned into my mother!
When it comes to my 19 year old daughter, what can I say? The old Abba song comes to mind, Money Money Money! She is a bottomless pit and is currently in university which is costing a fortune, but it will be all worth it when she qualifies in two years time. TWO YEARS! Give me a rope now please, and mobile phones! Well, where do I begin! Cracked screens numerous times, and I particularly remember a blackberry phone she wanted the cover changed so we did and then she hated it! Huge bills as well, I’ve lost count on the amount of money it has all cost me!
Then their is my 17 year old son I have to be honest he has actually never asked for a lot and generally looks after mobile phones and all his other gadgets. That’s changing slowly as he is finding his feet in the world and starting to party and having a good time which is beginning to cost me.
So after all the money I have spent on my three oldest children supplying everything they need for growing up in a must have society, what do I go and do?
I have two more children!
Well actually I only planned on one, but I’m really lucky I got TWINS!
Two for the price of one! Literally and the cost begins again! They are only four, but when will they have their first mobile, laptop or the latest gadget? Already the demand for certain things is starting to show!
So for the last 21 years I have been putting my hand in and out of my pocket on a very regular basis and it doesn’t look like it will stop anytime soon!
Mostly though I have enjoyed being poor and children of course have the benefits of giving you lovely memories. Love and give your life a meaning. That’s impossible to describe. WAIT! Who am I kidding?! I want my MONEY BACK !

Great ending! Have you ever thought of forming some sort of band or dance troupe and entering BGT in a bid to get them to earn their keep?! #fartglitter

Hahaha! This isn't giving me much hope – I keep thinking that as soon as I don't have to pay for childcare we'll be rich! #bestandworst

Gulp. So you mean that they don't become little freebies once they start school and no longer need child care and nappies? *sobs* I think I may need to lie down in a darkened room while I get my head around this 😉 Thanks for linking up with #fartglitter Nige x

Mine are only 7 and 2 and already the spending is ridiculous, I think five of them would just about send me over the edge! And think of all the potential grandkids you could get to splash the cash on too, then you really will get your wish of being poor forever. So nice of your kids to fulfil your dream for you x #bestandworst

"I wanted to be poor all my life" – hahaha! That really made me laugh! Brilliant post! I remember accidentally running up a triple figure phone bill as a teen-ager when I used it abroad. My dad also went mad! #brillblogposts

Haha! Yes, WHO would have lots of kids?! Mine all work for us for money, so that helps. Otherwise I would be the same – constantly with my hand in my pocket. Lovely photos of your kids btw and of course, they ARE worth it! Alison #brilliantblogposts

Lol! I love the ending – jokes aside I genuinely don't get excited about spending money on myself any more! It's all for them and as long as I can bring them up to be grateful and responsible with their money then I think I'll be satisfied with my life. Gorgeous kids and gorgeous pics! 🙂 #bigpinklink

My Life As A Mummy

I honestly can't remember the time I spent money on myself. It goes straight on my kids, who at 6 & 2 are very damn expensive already! I hate to think what it will be like when they're teenagers.
When I hit 15 years old, my Mum told me that if I wanted all these nice things then I had to get a weekend job… and I did! It was the best feeling earning my own money even if it was only £3.50 an hour back in 2003!

My eldest is almost 13 and I've recently started to notice that she 'needs' more than she used to. Extra credit for her phone, new Nikes, Converse, and a jacket she's seen in New Look. I can't wait for the next 8 years or so :p LOL
