The fitness industry has been on a steady rise over the last decade, but during the past year there was a significant spike in purchases of fitness equipment, gym membership registrations, and online training programs. It is evident that a significant number of people exhibit a strong desire to get fit, especially since it is one of the most effective ways to improve your mental health

Whether you’re simply riding a trend or this is based on the personal desire to make significant lifestyle changes, it’s important to know how and where you’re going to train. There are many options, and each has their own benefits and risks. Here’s what you need to know:

Gym Memberships

Gyms are arguably the best place to get fit. This mainly because gyms grant their members access to equipment and facilities that they couldn’t otherwise afford on their own. This is especially true for high-end gyms like Equinox, but there are more budget-friendly gyms such as Anytime Fitness and Gold’s Gym that also feature high quality equipment.

Not only do gym memberships house full sets of equipment, but they also have trainers that can help beginners perfect various exercises. Fitness gyms also have emergency facilities for use in case of an accident. Since you’re working out in a public establishment, you have to observe health guidelines in order to minimize any health risks. This is especially true with gyms that have small enclosed spaces.

However, the true value of gym memberships is the fact that you join a community of like-minded people who are willing and happy to guide you through your fitness journey. They won’t just make sure that you’re doing things right, but they’d also keep you from making mistakes, such as skipping leg day.

Home Gyms

Home gyms can be tailored to suit your preferences in terms of equipment. Another benefit of having a home gym is that you get to enjoy privacy and security. This is especially important during times when mass gatherings are highly discouraged. However, since you’ll be working out unsupervised, you’re more likely to develop some bad habits, unless you have a decent amount of experience at the gym prior to setting up a home gym.

The Outdoors Are an Option

Even with all the benefits associated with gyms and home gyms, they aren’t the only way to get fit. It’s possible to get fit without equipment, without a trainer, and even without moving. There’s a wide variety of isometric exercises that are effective at strengthening your whole body while improving your control and stability.

These exercises are a great alternative to gyms, and they don’t cost anything. There are also many outdoor areas that you can train at, especially if you don’t really need to gain muscle. Even something as simple as road running or cycling can drastically improve your overall health.

Endnote

Fitness doesn’t have to be expensive, but there are paid options that can significantly boost your progress. It’s just a matter of determining how much you’re willing to invest in your health. Given the predicament we find ourselves in, the need to strengthen our bodies has never been more important than it is today. It’s really a matter of determining which benefits matter to you most and what risks or compromises you’re willing to take.
